I wasn't trying to bad mouth anyone, I was actually asking a sincere, serious question, out of interest. You didn't have to get so defensive, but thanks for answering my question.

What kind of school do you go to?
The book is In The Beginning by Walt Brown. According to the introduction, the author was once a Christian Evolutionist. After struggling with the world-wide flood, and fossil records, he concluded that there wasn't evidence for evolution. His book cites scientific evidence to support creation of all creatures, as well as a world-wide flood.

And I just graduated from public High School.

Folks, we aren't all idiots, but we do have enough to elect George Bush. Please keep in mind that by definition 50% of any group are below average in intelligence within the group. The religious right in our country you may have noticed are not our best and brightest, they look to Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and the equally brilliant George W. Bush to tell them how to live, what to believe, and of course what nation to slaughter women and children in. Then they have the incredible stupidity to say "But the Iraqi's are so much better off now", give me a break. Some of the retards that voted for him last fall are starting to wake up as evidenced by his polls, damn shame the lemmings fell for the propaganda last Year. If you are a true bush hater please consider joining my clan "George W Bush Can Kiss My *ss", My good friend and countryman buckfush has founded this clan, just think of the fun we can have sending clan messages to each other, it will give you a chance to interact with US citizens that actually care about what the rest of the world thinks about us, some of us do believe that we should try to leave the world in a better place than we found it, and some of us do truly believe in freedom above all else, Best regards,

OK, now we're starting to get somewhere. I'm starting to get a clearer picture of things. Let's review where we stand, shall we?

You mentioned that you had "read a few books." So far you've only mentioned one book - "In The Beginning" by Walt Brown. Surely the few books you alluded to aren't really only one book. Or are they? But no matter, I took the liberty of looking at the 35 reader reviews of that book at Amazon.com. You know what the funny thing is? Every single one of the 35 reviewers gave Walt's book either a one star rating or a five star rating. There was not a single rating of two, three, or four stars. Not one. Why do you suppose that is?

Your two conferences consisted of one that was "just a church with various videos" and another that was hosted by Walt Brown, the author of the rather controversial book mentioned above.

Plus we know that you went to a public school. May I ask in what part of the country this was?

That's where we stand so far. Is there anyhing else you'd like to add to this list?

If that is so however...HOW COME WE'RE THE ONLY CREATURES THAT HAVE TO WIPE OUR BLOODY BUMS????

Hey! If we're so evolved...heh! Heh! Heh!
We don't all have 'bloody' bums. Maybe it's just you, Shavixroids 😛

Why do you say the theory of relativity will not hold true any more if the moon goes out of orbit (which surely it will one day since it is moving away from the earth. I've never heard this before.

Elsewhere you say the theory of relativity is something to do with matter distorting space-time, which I think is right, but if the moon loses its orbit surely it can do it's distortion somewhere else? Is that what you meant? Apologies if not, but please explain.

if the moon SUDDENLY flies away, then the distortion caused by earth must be gone. Or, maybe there was never this "distortion" at all. Hence Einstien's theory would be in question.

Couldn't it suddenly fly away due to distortion from another source?

yes.

But we would be able to track that too, and the theory would hold true. Stop messing up my example.

We'd probably all be dead I guess! By the way, do you believe the theory of relativity to be true?

Yes, Coconut, natural selection, the same process by which the object described by your user name came into being. Please provide me with a single piece of evidence that "The line is drawn, though, if you say following a human's geneology back far enough, that it was once an ape. That is where things cannot proceed by chance.

Why not?

If bacteria can evolve into new strains (and hence new species) that are resistant to antibiotics as has been shown to happen in MANY instances, then why didn't humans evolve to our present state and why are we not evolving now?

"We are so highly developed with computers, buildings, clothes, houses, that no other animal, living or dead, can rivel [sic] what has been accomplished by man."

What does this even mean? And what does it have to do with whether evolution is a science, whether evolution is "true", or whether it has been "proven"?

Your ignorance is breathtaking, your lack of understanding and knowledge of the words "science", "evolution" and "theory" makes me wonder whether they even taught science where you went to school, and your devotion to argument in the face of staggering evidence to the contrary makes me wonder whether you're actually a mule, but of course, you're not, since no mule can rivel what has been
accomplished by man.

Lets not all trash on public schools. I went to public school and so did a lot of people and the best public schools are actually better than the best private schools, it's just that there are more bad public schools and more kids go to them with not enough money. I'll make that arguement better in a new thread in a week or so, so no one send this debate off on that tangent.

Anyway, just a few nit picks, I agree with your central point. Evolution does proceed by chance. Evolution and pretty much all of life and science are based on probabilities not sure things.

New strains of bacteria are not the same thing as new species, although new species of bacteria have shown up in labs. And yes, new strains of bacteria and viruses and even fruit flies occur all the time.

Humans are still changing but since the process happens over many generations it is too slow to notice. Sickle cell anemia and several other conditions are examples of human evolution, they provide defense against malaria in heterozygotes, which lets them breed more than the homozygotes who die. Read Genome by Matt Ridley.

There is a lot of evidence for evolution and none for creation. Whether or not there was a "great flood" has no bearing on evolution and does not give the bible any more credibility to creation, again if someone wants to start a satelite arguement of prehistoric floods, make a new thread please.

Evolution is a science by definition. When you go to college, take an evolutionary biology course, or even a general bio course that is for biology people, and therefore more in depth than the easiest bio of memorizing phylums and things. And I think evolution supporters should take a class in it as well as creationists, it helps us make a point better. And insulting people isn't the way to get them to reason with you.

Please read the links in my last post a page back people as far as evidence is concerned.

Sorry, my intention wasn't to trash schools either public or private, rather to trash the viewpoint, I didn't realise he'd gone to a public school (as did I) until I reread the thread.

Yes, new strains are not new species true, but the process by which they become new strains is the same process by which new species develop, just chose to illustrate my point that way.

As for the humans not evolving...I meant for Coconut to provide evidence why he thought they weren't evolving...

I've read Genome, or perhaps you weren't directing me toward it?

Yes, I agree that insulting people isn't the way to inspire reasoned argument, but there comes a point where not insulting really becomes impossible, especially when the foundation for the opposing argument is palpably a house of cards
