Michigan did not play and thus still had only a loss to OSU, but the voters jumped Florida ahead of them so that the two teams wouldn't play a rematch championship game. It might happen again though I doubt it.
The voters don't get much of a choice. It is 1 vs 2. OU is ranked 4th. If the two teams between OU and Texas both lose a game and OU and Texas win out, OU may be in it.
Strength of schedule may come into play and with the Big 12 getting as much respect that its getting and OU has two good OOC games: TCU and Cincy.

How can they play a big 12 championship and put the winner and loser in the National title game?
Originally posted by no1marauderI know that. I did not feel like pointing out that one of the two would not be in the Big 12 title game. Yet they could both be in the national game? There are other teams in the Big 12 that still have a chance to beat out Texas and Oklahoma. P.S. A few years ago they voted Michigan down to keep them out of the title game vs Ohio State? I think it happened because they wanted to avoid a rematch and to give another team a chance. Maybe I am wrong.

Originally posted by no1marauderI don't think it would be a travesty if your only loss came to the number 1 team in the country, who just happened to be in your division of your conference. The true idea of a National Championship is to pit the two best teams, although the popularity contest seems to thwart that on occasion. OU might just be better than PSU, USC & Alabama. I hope it doesn't happen because it is very tough to beat a team twice in the same year. Texas will already have to do that, more than likely, in the Big 12 title game. The Big 12 is arguably the strongest conference in the nation this year and as such, it would be no real surprise to have the top 2 teams come out of the same conference. It is probably a moot point, but just the same, it could happen.

If you think that linebacker was the key to OU winning or losing, then you are nuts. Texas had TWO true freshman and one redshirt freshman STARTING in their secondary against Bradford and the OU receiving corps which are among the best in the nation. We didn't whine about that misfortune.

Especially when you were losing for most of that game and only took the lead after the opposing team lost a key player due to a blown ACL.[/b]
Furthermore, it will be tough to beat Missouri or Kansas twice in the same year and we will probably have to do one or the other to advance to the NCS, provided we win out.

No tears, just the point. Your comment was that it is tough to defeat an opponent twice in one year. My point was, yes especially when you caught some very lucky breaks to win the first time.[/b]
Originally posted by shortcircuitThe point is that Texas has already proven itself on the field to be the better team. Giving Oklahoma a "do over" rather than letting another great team have a shot against the Longhorns would be a travesty. The only way to know who's the "best" team is to have them play; the Sooners don't deserve another chance to do something they couldn't do a few weeks ago.

Originally posted by EladarHow about Oklahoma's lucky breaks. There were enough blown calls for both sides during the game. Stoops didn't cry after the game, he said the better team won that day. Based on your logic, anytime an underdog wins a game it is luck. Well how about the number of teams that the rankings are just flat out wrong on?

Oh, and for the record, Texas has beaten OU 3 out of the last 4 years. Must be lucky. This series has always been streaky.
Just a couple of notes about the Penn State OSU game. First of all, watching Ohio State try to score is like watching grass grow. In fact, it always has been with Tressel teams. Secondly, can any one tell me why statistically the opponents playing OSU over the last 5 years have the lowest penalty average of any other team? Tonight, Penn State had ZERO penalties called against them. Does anyone really think they played penalty free and perfect? And lastly, I guess Penn State might as well make plans for the National Championship game. Then we will see yet another Big Ten team get humiliated in the big game. Maybe after enough humiliations the Big Ten will be banned from the big game? Then again, USC has humiliated the last 14 Big Ten teams in the Rose Bowl yet they keep comm'in back for more!!!
