The night Tech and Texas played, Texas was off and Tech clicked on all cylinders and still had to have a last second score to win the game after opening ahuge lead in the first half. Last night, Tech was misfiring and OU was clicking on all cylinders. Tech's defense has not been that great, it is that their offense outscores opposing teams by more than their defense gives us. Texas and OU are the top two teams in the Big 12 without question, as are Alabama and Florida in the SEC.
Was Tech that bad or was OU that good? OU has made some improvements on special teams since the Texas game. Too bad it took losing to Texas to make changes.
OU's running game improved quite a bit since then too. It looks like OU found a replacement for Reynolds at Middle Line backer. Now if OU can only beat OSU next week. With OSU you never know.
Y ...[text shortened]... r. Notre Dame losing to Syracuse was classic. Every Notre Dame loss is even better this year.

Muschamp has done a fantastic job considering they had ZERO experience in the secondary, lost two top linebackers and two top D-linemen last year. They are going to be even better next year too. write it down now!! Texas was amart to lock up Muschamp as well before he took a head coaching job elsewher like his prdecessor, Gene Chizik did. OU has plenty of Defense too. Florida will not run it up on Texas or OU like they did Citadel. LSU is not as good as eithet Texas or OU, so that benchmark is not much either. I am not sure Alaabma can score enough against Florida to stay on the field with them, but Texas and OU damn sure can. One of those two will play Florida more than likely. The other will probably get USC. Both should be tremendous matchups.
The OU-Texas Tech game showed that the top Big 12 teams can't play D. I still can't see any of them beating Florida, if Florida gets it done against Florida State and Alabama.

Anyone else would notice that three people have been replaced on the kick coverage team and those changes have shown results.
Anyone else would notice that Murray is back to his old form of making people miss.
Anyone else could see that Brandon Crow is no longer on the field and that Box is a worthy replacement for Ryan Reynolds.
But you are a Texas fan so you can't see it.
Edit:
New Coaches Poll just released.
1 Alabama (56) 11-0 1,518 1
2 Oklahoma (4) 10-1 1,412 5

It appears that if OU wins next week, they will be playing for the Big XII campionship.
Gators have been the most impressive and balanced team since their 1 point loss to Ole Miss (which smashed LSU on the road).
And LSU nearly lost to Troy last week.
Ole Miss has lost to Vandy (who just lost to Tennessee) , South Carolina, Alabama and Wake Forrest. Yes, this is a very good year for Ole Miss by Ole Miss standards, but they are far from a top tier team.
One other thing, Florida lost to Ole Miss at home!
The OU-Texas Tech game showed that the top Big 12 teams can't play D.
The fact that OU's defense shut down one of the best offenses in college football just goes to show how accurate your opinions are.
Originally posted by EladarThe SEC is still the best and deepest conference. I expect that will be shown again in the bowls this year.

Florida's one point loss to Ole Miss early in the season (on a missed XP) won't help any of their opponents NOW. They've been absolutely killing good opposition ever since.
OU gave up over 400 yards and a ton of yards after the catch. Some "shut down". IF they face Florida, the Gators will score in the 40's just like Texas did.
Originally posted by shortcircuitThere was something like 400 yards after the catch in the OU-TT game and the tackling and coverage in the secondary was terrible. Florida will score at will against those "defenses"; the only question is can they score at will against Florida's defense.

OU gave up most of those yards in the fourth quarter. The 99 yard drive was against OU's second string.
Here is the breakdown my quarter:
1st:
DRIVE TOTALS: TexTc drive: 5 plays 13 yards, 02:26 TexTc PUNT
DRIVE TOTALS: TexTc drive: 5 plays 30 yards, 02:45 TexTc PUNT
DRIVE TOTALS: TexTc drive: 7 plays 12 yards, 03:43 TexTc PUNT
First quarter totals:
Tech 17 plays and 55 yards. Score at this point 7-0 OU.
2nd quarter:
DRIVE TOTALS: TexTc drive: 8 plays 47 yards, 02:14 TexTc DOWNS (series included a 15 yard penalty for tech)
DRIVE TOTALS: TexTc drive: 4 plays 6 yards, 01:27 TexTc DOWNS
DRIVE TOTALS: TexTc drive: 4 plays 57 yards, 01:17 TexTc TD
DRIVE TOTALS: TexTc drive: 2 plays 4 yards, 00:43 TexTc INT
That's a total of 17 plays for 114 yards
First half total, OU gave up 169 yards and one touchdown. The OU defense also returned that interception to the 2 yardline, which means it pretty much scored a touchdown to make up for the one they gave up.
Score at half time OU 42 TT 7
That was a fun recap!
There was something like 400 yards after the catch in the OU-TT game and the tackling and coverage in the secondary was terrible.
How many of those yards were given up by Tech? How many of those yards were given up by OU scrubs? Your inability to make important distinctions is rather obvious.
Originally posted by EladarThey gave up 169 years in the 1st half; that's hardly dominant defense. The Sooners also gave up 438 yards to Texas and a whopping 491 yards to Kansas in a game that was close most of the way. Their defense is average at best.

You've shown a laughable ignorance of football all season long; why stop now? Take the Sooners away from Norman and have them play a good team and we'll see what happens. What happened last year is they got destroyed by West Virginia, giving up 48 points in the process. And the year before, Boise State lit them up for 43 points in a shocking to most victory.
I wouldn't be shocked by an Oklahoma State win next week. Even if OU wins, giving them a berth in the Big 12 Championship game over a team that beat them on a neutral field would be a travesty.

No matter what you say...BOTH teams were clicking when they played each other and Texas won. Texas got beat by Tech on a last second touchdown on an off night in Lubbock. OU had a huge homefield advantage last night. The way the two teams played last night, I doubt there would have been much of a difference if it had been played in Lubbock.
I have never knocked OU all year. I have lauded Texas when many scoffed. Then they made believers out of many (except those in Norman apparently).
As for Florida, I believe that either Texas or OU would match up well because Florida's defense is nothing special. They play smash mouth football in the SEC, but they have not gone up against prolific pass oriented scoring machines. I think whoever gets them (it will be Texas or OU) will show up and play well. I also predict USC will get the other and I think USC will have their hands full as well.
They gave up 169 years in the 1st half; that's hardly dominant defense.
Perhaps against an SEC team those wouldn't be such great stats, but this was against Texas Tech and one of the bes offenses in college football.
Once again, your inability to make important distinctions is making you look like a fool.
You can grasp at straws by brining up other games, but I was responding to your comment about this paticular game demonstrating that the Big XII doesn't play defense.
I'm done with this 'discussion', I know you are able to keep on rampling on and on after being proven wrong, and such ramblings are a complete waste of time.

The big numbers teams have run up against OU's "defense" in big games speak for themselves.

Texas beat OU, they didn't whip OU. A whipping is when you are behind for pretty much the entire game without hope of coming back.
Where was Box then? He was injured. Even the following week they held him out. Now he wears a brace on one of his arms and is doing a very good job.
