I don't know about Europe, but it is perfectly legal to carry a gun or other weapon here, as long as it is not concealed.
I had a couple of dogs attack while walking our Akita once. I had to hold her back because I wasn't sure what she would do to them. They were not pit bulls, just some mutts. 😕

I did want to beat the crap out of those dogs, but I also didn't want to let go of mine or she would chase them to the ends of the earth and I would never find her again. She is the best and most loving dog I have ever had and I surely don't want to loose her. She is truely one of the family.

My brother-in-law has a rotweiler. It’s about six years old and wasn’t a bad dog but he mentioned to me the other day it’s becoming very protective of his wife and 4 year old and doesn’t care for him too much any more. My advice was get rid of it before it misinterprets his or somebody else’s reaction to his wife & baby and decides to attack. I don’t trust any animal that's bigger or meaner than I am.
For some reason I had the impression that pit bulls and guns were illegal in GB. Where I go to walk my six dogs (including the border collie mentioned above) I will occasionally run into a really nice old man who carries an automatic pistol with him because he had a bad experience with a stray one day. But he knows all of my dogs and they like him (even the border collie).
I've seen stun guns used on dogs and they usually do the trick.

He is a big dog with a lot of strength, we have a weekly scrap where he tries to rip my throat out.
I end up grabbing his collar and wrestle him to the ground, you would think he would learn that I am the big cheese in the pack when it comes to scrapping.
We had him as a rescue dog where he was ill treated by teenage lads, so I suppose it stands to reason why he hates men.
We keep old woofer away from kids and anybody that cant run very quickly.
I love him to bits though and if somebody tried to hurt him, it would take 50 firemen to restrain me and not little wimpy ones either.

Bluntly put, it is 99.7% the case that it is not the dog that is the problem, but the owner or former owner that caused the problem.
Too many people train their dogs to be agressive. Even worse, too many people expect dogs to BE agressive and then show fear of the dog. You show a dog fear and that instigates aggression.
Yes, some breeds are more apt for aggression than others, but all of this dog aggression where people are attacked and in rare cases (and very sadly) people are killed, the dogs owner should be held SERIOUSLY responsible. Fines, jail time and loss of the dog (not killing the dog, unless necessary).
The human race needs to #%$!#! grow up as a whole and start taking responsiblity for their failings.
