A lot of times you can customize those. I removed most of the crap from StumbleUpon (also a highly-recommended add on).

Get firefox 2 in the first instance as it has very cool features. I think CTRL f5 clears your cache and CTRL+SHIFT+DELETE in Firefox 2 clears your private data.

When you clear your private data do you have all the tick boxes marked? It always clears all of my stuff when I use it... I'm using the latest version of FF though.

Yeah, it's strange that anything still shows up after clearing. Try updating or re-installing. You may want to run a system scan for spyware/virii as well, not the most obvious answer, but it could happen.

Under Firefox 1 it's listed in the privacy tab.
Under Firefox 2 it's a tickbox in the Clear Private Data option.
