I don't know if we're are getting meaner and more violent. I think it's more due to the fact that it's more out in the open. While this may very well be less hypocrite, it also may have the negative effect of turning it into something socially acceptable or even commendable.

It exists, there's no point in denying it, but the general population should be ashamed of it, not celebrating it. It seems idiocy is quite idolized nowadays (e.g. Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Bam, Big Brother celebrities, etc.) and that is the problem, in my opinion.

We say in spanish:
"el diablo sabe por diablo, pero más sabe por viejo".

Poorly translated to english, it means something like:
"the devil knows by devil, but it knows more by old".
