A friend of mine got locked up for overstaying his visa about 10 years ago. He didn't know at the time, and neither did the u.s. immigration. It was only about 7 years after that incident(after the system had been computerised), when he briefly landed in LA airport to catch another connecting flight that they nabbed him.
Can you spell "Police State"?
D
What if your friend had been a wanted IRA fugitive...or an Al-Qaeda cretin? Do you think they should have not been concerned about his visa overstay?

1 officer in part-time has to secure a coast wich is 200 miles or more long. Watched a documentry about that last month.
You're officers in the airports scream at the people who come on vacation to the USA and you find it strange that we have anti-usa feelings?
Not that Europe is soo good, but come over to here and find out what the word freedom means.

Originally posted by Loose Screwthey've got posters up in US immigration now saying 'we are the welcoming face of America' and the like, and the guy who saw me last was pretty friendly. But there are still aload of mini-Hitlers there. For example, one guy behind me was on his mobile (he didn't realise that it wasn't allowed). When one of the officers saw him he marched over and barked "put it away or I'm taking it away" and when the guy complied and apologuised the officer barked "make sure it's switched off or you're losing it" and marched off looking smug. I appreciate that they have a job to do, but is being rude really aiding national security? Would it have been any less effective to politely point out that the phone should be switched off and not used until past the entry point?

An education in being polite to costumers (tourists, business clients), would be a very, very big recommandation.
