Entertainment is what earns them money. What upsets me most is that the media makes it seem like violent crime is on the rise when in reality violent crime makes up a small percentage of all crimes and crime is certainly NOT on the rise (at least not in Canada). This makes people afraid and politics use this by promising to implement policies that "get tough on crime" even though there is absolutely no evidence to support that tougher punishment deters crime. Also, these policies tend to hurt small time offenders a lot more than violent offenders. [/rant]

This has been the sad truth for decades.

Unfortunately, the law has often been harsher on blacks than whites as well.

Many of these issues are still new to the rest of the world. Here in the states we are fortunate to be o nthe cutting edge of melting pot.

It is sad, but that is the direction the media has gone: sensationalize everything.
