OK it's potentially a bit of a misanthropic topic, but not necessarily. Even if you think we only have a hundred years or so due to population expansion, there can still be some huge positive humanitarian efforts within that.
Maybe you think we will go on forever, step out to the stars and colonise other worlds. Maybe not...
I think our days as a species are probably numbered, which is more pessimistic than misanthropic. I think populations will continue to grow and create potential extinction level issues, such as climate change, resource shortages, conflict and ultimately either game-over or a serious step back in the social and technological landscape.
Consider China's revelation this week that they are permitting the doubling of child births. I'm not blaming the Chinese by the way, just looking at the indicators.
So what do you think - space explorers or back to the dark ages...?
Sooner or later we will all be taken out by a meteorite; an extinction event. Life will recover of course, but some other dominant species will evolve.
