How long do you think our civilisation has got?

OK it's potentially a bit of a misanthropic topic, but not necessarily. Even if you think we only have a hundred years or so due to population expansion, there can still be some huge positive humanitarian efforts within that.

Maybe you think we will go on forever, step out to the stars and colonise other worlds. Maybe not...

I think our days as a species are probably numbered, which is more pessimistic than misanthropic. I think populations will continue to grow and create potential extinction level issues, such as climate change, resource shortages, conflict and ultimately either game-over or a serious step back in the social and technological landscape.

Consider China's revelation this week that they are permitting the doubling of child births. I'm not blaming the Chinese by the way, just looking at the indicators.

So what do you think - space explorers or back to the dark ages...?

Is that estimation based on population issues?

I think all the crap surrounding religion and religious wars/attacks is not at all the issue, population and resource management is.

350 seems generous to me, not that I'm an expert nor particularly informed, but I'd give us 100 years tops.

Sooner or later we will all be taken out by a meteorite; an extinction event. Life will recover of course, but some other dominant species will evolve.

It doesn't matter. We're the pest of this world and will all
perish sooner or later, dragging with us everything else.

I think everyone should join and live by the tenets of
    Reverend Korda's Church of Euthanasia.

It really will not make a difference to most of us, as we will already be long gone.

Religious nuts long for the end of the world.
They imagine themselves to be the chosen ones who will
    rise up to heaven.
