Aquitaine didn't move last turn, so everyone around him (wanted to) jumped to the conclusion that he left the game, and now he is back while everyone is mobilising troops against him. Must be very fun to be him, now.
Lithuania and Byzantium keep rolling forward. I wonder when they stop, if they stop at all...

Turns out the reason I was crushed last turn was that my forces did indeed retreat, but to Alsace not Franconia (50/50 chance of it going either way). Venice had waited until phase two to attack to take advantage of this chance.
Well, you can always go to Venice hand in glove...I'll throw my fleet against your enemies in a last futile noble gesture.
I keep wondering if I did something wrong or if my death was inevitable.
The dreaded Byzo-Lithuanian dreadnought failed to take any of my land last year. They bounced off of Edessa; I'm not sure whose casualties were worse. I'll have to count it out later. However, as they wiped out my entire garrison, I can't stop them from taking Edessa this year, and I wasn't able to pillage it. Since it's not annexed, I suppose it doesn't do me much good to have held it. I think I somehow managed to attain naval dominance over all three of my enemies, one of whom is Byzantium! In addition, they seem to be still fighting on another front. I'm not sure, but maybe Pharoah can pull this off...
Casualties in Edessa (assuming I didn't screw up again - I double checked and made sure not to count woundeds as killed):
Pharoah lost:
4 Saracen Guards
1 Muslim Swordsman
2 Muslim Skirmishers
2 Arab Footmen
Pharoah's Foolish Foes lost:
4 Mongol Raiders
1 Light Spearman
2 Boyar Guards
1 Elite Marine
2 Mongol Horse Archers
2 Crossbows
I'll check the gold values later, but I think I gave better than I got.

What can you see of mine? It's too painful to open the turn file. Did you receive my gold?
Originally posted by AThousandYoungOh that's right I can't send gold if I don't have land.

I flung the rest of my fleet at the Turks. They are your enemies aren't they?
Originally posted by AThousandYoungI'm bowing out this turn--the few remaining Arletian sailors are going to take wives from amongst the women of Tarabulus, and the Duke of Arles is going to drink himself into the gutter like Bonnie Prince Charlie--but I might as well help out the only ally I've got left before I go.
One of many at this point. So that's how come my navy is so strong relative to my enemies'. Thanks!!
Originally posted by Bosse de NagePersistance is a very powerful thing, my friend. You still have resources and are well-defended. I have formal alliances with both Sicily and Venice, and I think there's a decent chance I'll be allying with Venice against the Byzantine alliance. You two would need to get over any spite you have for one another though. You have a minimum income of 7 gold a year, and I'll still give you Tarabulus if you want to hang in there and it won't be a diplomatic nightmare (it shouldn't be). Your ships seem to have been wiped out, and the Turks have 5 AWGs in the East Med where I suspect they may have fled to when you hit them.

On mature reflection, ATY, do you think the idea of a realm ruled by committee would have been a success?
Originally posted by Bosse de NageCommittees are a crappy way to run wars. Then again, since we'd all be the same realm, there'd be no point in getting greedy with one another. I suspect it would be a fairly mediocre power which would die when some astute enemy challenged us in the area where one of the less experienced players was in charge. Squabbling between committee members wouldn't help either. Imagine we were Venice, say. The naval dude would be off picking a fight with Sicily and assuming the army guy was going to support while the army dude was attacking Bavaria. The finance guy would be bitching at the army guy for not pillaging enough, and the army and navy guys would both be saying they really need the money even when they don't. It wouldn't work too well. Everyone would expect things from everyone else that wouldn't happen, and then people would start fighting. It would be a lot of fun though.

Even democracies like the US have a single commander in chief when the stuff hits the fan.
Something that should help us would be my good fortune in the wars people keep thrusting on me. Everyone around, including some of my enemies, is congratulating me on my tactical mastery. I may have a psychological edge due to this. Whether or not I actually have a tactical advantage is less certain, but people at least think I do.
Originally posted by AThousandYoungThe way you put it makes it sound like it'd be a lot of fun! Someone would have to be C-in-C though.

Originally posted by Bosse de NageOne of the more amusing aspects would be that in theory everyone would have full access to the turnfile. So if the navy dude got mad enough or simply thought he knew best, he might "steal" some army troops. There'd be loads of entertainment in that sort of thing too.

I hope if we ever do this I don't end up giving people ideas.
