and i read somewhere else that tobacco is much more harmful than marijuana.

I know someone who has a prescription for medical marijuana (in California). Does this mean his weed is 100% legal? The federal government disagrees, no?
I used to work with a lot of guys in wheelchairs. Most of the guys in cali had "doctor's recommendations" note the difference; it is not a "prescription". Anyways they all grew their own stash and kept the recommendation letter pinned on the wall next to their plants. The general concensus was that since it was legal for them in cali, that no state/local law enforcement could arrest them for it. BUT that federal law enforcement still could and would arrest them. But I am no lawyer and wouldn't pin my future on such hopes.

I've got a friend who grows legal, and a friend who has a prescription here in New England. It should be legalized... the US could tax it rather than keeping their 'war' going.

go knock yourself out on books about marihuana on a medical library. there is a vast body of research on it, and the only negative effect that has been shown to exist, is developing slight problems in short time memory after smoking it daily for dozens of years. well, it does have somewhat higher cancer risk, but if not smoked throughout the day for years, like tobacco, the risk is practically nonexistent.

I haven't heard about the cotton industry thing someone mentioned, but it does make some sense. hemp, as a fiber, is far superior to cotton or any other plant that can be used similarly. it grows very fast and is more durable than cotton. whenever textiles are found in very old excavations, it's almost always made of hemp, because nothing else survives the conditions underground as well. hemp oil has thousands of uses as well. it's just an incredible plant, and it's a shame it's not widely in use today.

Hemp would never put the cotton industry out of business or even risk their profits so much as to incur a massive national conspiracy! What a silly notion!

Weed is illegal in the US because of the stigma of marijuna there as a DRUG and simply because they're just not as progressive in these matters as the rest of the developed world. Eventually, it will be decriminalized there. It's just a matter of how long it will take. Maybe twenty or thirty years?? Who knows?

I'm still disappointed that sodomy is slowly being legalized in all 50 states.

I saw a special on TV about prescription marijuana. This poor guy was dying of cancer and he had a script to smoke the stuff to relieve his pain... but the damn cops went in and arrested him. Acted like he was some kind of drug addict or something.

So it's okay to shoot up morphine if you are in a hospital, but it's not okay to smoke a joint, even if you are dying.
hey you know that in places like ireland now, you can drink yourself stupid till youre pissed as a fart or whatever, but, "woah there just a minute son, ye wouldnt be after thinkin of lightin one of them CIGARETTES would ye?" I knew an American guy who emigrated to the UK after he got arrested for smoking. He was driving somewhere in the US and got pulled over. The Cop found a small bag of grass in the car. He was arrested and put on two years probation. He had to provide a Urine sample every two weeks. After about 18 months he was drunk at a party and someone gave him a coup ...[text shortened]... nice guy, not a criminal at all! I'm amazed at how much this plant is feared in some places...
sounds like a fascist state to me

yeah, well, they've done a lot of silly things. like thrown tea to the sea as a protest. 'duck & cover' to protect against nuclear weapons. develop a hallucinogen 1000x stronger than lsd to use as a weapon.

but I guess the cotton industry would just switch to hemp if it was an issue for them. bigger bucks.

It loses the excitement once it becomes legal. 🙁
