I'm going to pass along the information I received through the grapevine for a couple of reasons: (1) I do not think the information per se in any way makes any player in the game look bad, so passing it on should not be considered a malicious act. (2) I have no clue as to whether or not said information is true.
I was told that the Novgorod player ha ...[text shortened]... benefit. We can not know if any other realm knew about Novgorod's decisions beforehand.
What you describe is cheating, pure and simple. If the players who are benefiting from this cheating had a shred of integrity, they'd remove their forces from Novgorod territory without capturing any and leave Norway alone so it could rebuild its fleet. As it is, this cheating will push them close to victory in the game immediately. This is completely disgusting if true.

Listen, if the poor guy lost some loved one, I can empathize with that, and I can understand the need to drop the game, of course. But I can not see where Novgorod's decision to throw the game's balance out of whack is defensible. Understandable, sure, but not defensible.
Here we have a dozen or so people playing a game, most of whom are or were paying to do so. It's turn 20, so we've invested a considerable amount of time in it. Novgorod decides to leave, but not without a hearty "screw you" to the people left behind.
Again, I don't think we can hold Bavaria, the Horde or Saxony (the only realms in the area that weren't attacked and that might possibly benefit from Novgorod's departure) to blame, because we do not know what they knew beforehand. Taking advantage of realms departing is part of this game (by the way, there is a Russian player that I have seen quit the game as soon as he is backstabbed in every game he has played -- you can guess I will backstab him each chance I get), but throwing a game's balance out of whack is not good sportsmanship.
Historically, I can imagine some ruler from Novgorod doing mad and nonsensical things. Russian history is rife with them. But how would said ruler somehow convince his nobles and peasantry to all lay down their lives so that they could get one half-effective swat in on the fleet of distant Norway, all the while, we can imagine, sending their realm's riches to other capitals?
Originally posted by GottschalkI guess the ruler of Novgorod died giving birth to the Khan's love-child, and the territorial dispensation follows as a result. Unless there is a paternity dispute between the Khan and Duke Bertram!
This action X is rarely something that you would see a real life ruler of a medieval realm do.

Still "no proof whatsoever", BB?
So, this is like going to a birthday party and playing Monopoly with the birthday boy... His 2 sisters and parents are also playing. They never charge each other for landing on property, and all trade each other to get all the railroads, utilities, and Boardwalk/Parkplace.
In other words, a big waste of time for the person who is not ‘in the circle’.
Lame, what a waste of time playing this game was. About all that makes me happy is that I DIDN'T pay money to play this game, and the guy with the great advantage still can't get anything done with such a huge advantage.
