I like this idea.

Its been in the back of my head that entrants who only submit 1 photo get rewarded over those who submit 3, so with the Photographer of the Round, then its an incentive to enter 3 photos rather than 1.

That's been my debate, too. I wonder how things would change if I only submit one shot vs. three. I think "It'd be fun to win.", but then I think "Nah, I'd like to shoot more and share more.", but then I think "It'd be fun to win." but... You get the idea. I like that suggestion--even if it only serves the purpose of encouraging people submitting three shots.

And, I don't understand how you totaled your points, Rag? What's your system?

The only time I really thought about it, was for the chess round, as I knew my photos were very similar. In the end, I decided I'd prefer to get feedback on more of my photos than getting the win.

Here's the Manmade Round Totaled in order of Photograph, and also a table for Photographer. Well done again Nordlys, and well done DdV. 😀

How do you mean?

It goes by this table,

1st - 10 pts -
2nd - 8 pts -
3rd - 6 pts -
4th - 5 pts -
5th - 4 pts -
6th - 3 pts -
7th - 2 pts -
8th - 1 pt -

and then the points go into a spreadsheet. Photographers/Photos on the left. Voters across the top. Its not very efficient,. I dunno if Noodles has optimised it in any way.

That sounds like a good idea in principle. I see only one problem with it - I try to balance the list so that we don't get several nature rounds in a row etc., and with a voting system, this wouldn't be guaranteed. But quite likely, it would turn out balanced enough to go with it, and if not, we could still make some changes.

In fact, now that I type it, why don't we do that for every round? For example, I get 5, 5 and 8 points for my three photos, that means I get 18 points in the Photographer of the Round table.
Sure, why not? I'll go right back to the "Still Life" round and apply it there. 🙂

What about having an 'animals' round?

What a fantastic idea! 😉

I really like all the ideas suggested thus far. A photographer of the round will add something extra to the competition and will stimulate sending in three entries. We could even calculate this across several rounds, and see who gets most votes overall.

The three in one round with the colours makes for something completely different again. I also thought of the similarity of the extended exposure and moving rounds, so I wouldn't having 'moving' pushed back. And since it wouldn't slow us down, it would be great to be able to vote for the upcoming rounds. The only thing I wonder about is whether we'll have enough people voting to get seven clear winners out of a list. If there are too many topics, or too few voters, we might end up with a lot of ties, I think.

Good idea. Give us a few days.

Good point about the ties as well. I'll have to ponder that one, as I was kind of thinking that putting in loads and loads of options was the way to go. That would be impossible taken your point into account. Maybe we could have a vote per certain categories...Nature: (animals, mountains, lakes, waterfalls, etc.), abstract: (colours, etc), etc.

That sounds like a good idea - that would also solve the problem that the list might be unbalanced, if I understand your idea correctly. I understand it this way: We'd make a list of superordinate categories, and every superordinate category would occur once (possibly more than once if it's a very big category) in a batch of rounds. Then people would vote for their favourite subcategories for each superordinate category. Is that what you mean?

And it would be a solution to Peachy's concern about having too much arty rounds, if you'd make a frivolous supercatergory.

*edit* I do hope that the extra competitions don't put too much emphasis on the points, but I doubt that will happen.

Even though I included colours in my example above, I think that colours should be excluded from the vote, and be our first new round seeing as its a new and interesting round.
