Maj Sjöwall, dead 84 years old, was a Swedish author and translator. She is best known for the collaborative work with her partner Per Wahlöö on a series of ten novels about the exploits of Martin Beck, a police detective in Stockholm. They said they were inspired by Ed McBain's novels, which they translated to Swedish.

There should have been a proper period of applause for Michael Robinson before a home game against Chelsea next Saturday if the world had not gone mad, but I am sure he is in people's thoughts. 61 is far too young. I wonder if people discuss skin cancer when young players sign for foreign clubs.
