Sean McMorrow, 85 years old, died of cancer in Newcastle last weekend. Just heard about it from one of his nieces [who is my cousin].

If an event as notable as that were to occur now, yes I think it would be appropriate to commemorate the deaths here.

One year ago today, May 25, 2020:

George Floyd murdered at 46 while restrained in police custody by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin who placed his knee on Floyd's neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds causing mechanical asphyxia.

A worthy addition to this thread.

Interestingly, it does fall foul of Duchess64's decree:

For a thread about 'notable deaths', the most reasonable interpretation should be that it's about mentioning the passing of people who had NOTABLE LIVES BEFORE THEY DIED. I don't think that this thread should be about people whose only claim to be 'notable' was that they died in unexpected or unusual ways.

On this matter, I am with you Suzianne.

No, I would not. But I do think that the deaths of 1,500 people in an extraordinarily notable event would be well worthwhile commemorating on this thread. I also think it is something we can agree to disagree about.
