okay, here's the definitive review of in rainbows. the absolute, objective and final truth:
01 - 15 step - good, interesting. not lazy at all nor pretentious. well, the beat is a little 'björk'.
02 - bodysnatchers - good, tight and packs a punch. second quite good song in a row. I'm feeling hopeful.
03 - nude - utter crap. first whiny phil collins song.
04 - weird fishes/arpeggi - good start, nice drums. too bad an actual song doesn't follow the intro. thom whining something pretentious.
05 - all I need - lazy, soothing, pretentious, crap. like the idiot twin of a bad depeche mode song.
06 - faust arp - very nice, folky steel string guitar for a rainy day.
07 - reckoner - a john frusciante guitar laced with whiny thom. soothing. boring.
08 - house of cards - sort of nice. in an echoing eddy arnold cattle call sort of country way. made for rolling credits in the end of a film. harmless.
09 - jigsaw falling into place - the 'patented british up-tempo beat', man, how many times the same song can be recorded? nice acoustic guitar though.
10 - videotape - the run-of-the-mill pretentious 'sensitive piano-poet' scam. extremely pathetic, will sell like liquid heaven to preteen girls.
three and a half good songs. a lot less pretentious than I was expecting. but I expected very pretentious. a lot of lazy songwriting though. on most songs there's a single 'sample' kind of a melody snippet repeated until the end, the way that beginners use samplers.
not as bad as I expected, but it's no masterpiece. I'll be extremely surprised if I end up listening more than 5 times through the album. even the second time is making the 'good parts' sound worse than I initially thought.
I give it 2 craps out of 5.

Loved Stone Roses very much.. but not the latter two.

Videotape will appeal to preteen girls? Hell it won't!!! Sounds way too depressed. Personally I think Videotape is one of the better song on the album, but that may change after a while. I've heard the album for a few times now and it gets better and better. Still don't like it as much as the others though.
About the OK Computer discussion: Last time I checked it was voted third best album ever here in the Netherlands, even higher than the Black Ablum by Metallica adn stuff like that. But it's absolutely right that it doesn't mean you MUST like it. If you don't then don't, but technically and musically it's still a brilliant album. Good melodies, good lyrics and singing, innovative and lots of different sounding songs.
