Why do you suspect drug or alcohol problems? Because they're black? Bigot!
We don't know the full story, so we can't make judgement - although I do think hitting your partner with a 12 year old is drastic too!

her to use her infant child as a physical weapon. Even if the child came
about the wrong way (rape) it seems strange that she shouldn't feel any
maternal instincts at all, but who knows? I just wanted to highlight the
possibility that the press (shocking) wouldn't tell the whole story, and let
us readers decide how whacked she really is. I would like to know, if she
was attacked by this man, violently, what the police is doing about him
now.
This is true the other way around as well. You often hear the press
painting the picture of the vile man beating his wife, but when you get
your hands on the actual charges being made, you see that the man
merely held back the crazed woman by her arms (granted so hard that
her arms bruise), but no one even considers how he may have been
provoked to the point of almost uncontrollable anger. I'm not defending
violence, you understand. I'm merely saying that media (and people in
general) seem to forget repeatadly that we're all just humans and when
pushed too far, we can all snap. And what happens then, however
responsible we are, should be described fairly by the press, with all the
relevant details. I'm sure a lot of "bad" people turns out to be quite
"normal" then, under very stressing conditions.

Most of the time the media does not report in the best interests of the people they are talking about, just for their own interests (which are to sell stories). Showing both sides of the story is too uninteresting (to most people who don't think) and wouldn't sell. 😛
It also gives more ammo for the public to victimise, which is what the majority like to do so much, rather than want to help people. This, in turn, makes the media be able to write more stories about it.

ERIE, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to swinging her 4-week-old son like a bat to hit her boyfriend during a fight, fracturing the infant's skull in the process.
Chytoria Graham, 27, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child under a plea agreement with prosecutors.
By pleading guilty, Graham acknowledged that on October 8 she grabbed her son Jarron by his feet and swung him, hitting her boyfriend and seriously injuring the child.
At Graham's preliminary hearing in December, paramedic Betty Schau, who treated the baby, recalled that Graham was crying and disheveled when medical crews arrived. She testified that Graham told her, "I swung him. I swung him like a bat."
The judge ordered a psychological examination for Graham before her sentencing, set for May 8. The charges carry a minimum of five years in prison because the child was under age 12. Two lesser charges were dropped.
Graham's previous attorney had said Graham did not use her child as a weapon, that the boy was hurt during a fight between the two adults and that Graham lied to authorities about how the injury occurred to protect her boyfriend.
Her current attorney, public defender Julia Dudics, however, said Tuesday that the choice to plead guilty was Graham's. Dudics declined further comment except to say that Graham had told her she was depressed.
Jarron, who made a full recovery, and Graham's four other children are currently in the custody of her parents.

Where in the article does it mention anything about drugs or alcohol? How can someone jump to that conclusion? For all you know this woman was a wealthy real estate agent living in a posh suburb and her husband worked long hours counselling teens with drug addictions. She's CRAZY. You don't get that kind of crazy with alcohol and drugs. Given that the above story is true, there's no excuse for what she did.
Originally posted by hopscotchYes, agree that it wasn't right to assume drugs and/or alcohol was involved.

prevent situations like this in the future. Constructive and very sharp
minded of you. I mean, can it get any easier? She's crazy. Sure. That's
the only explanation we need. Let's send her to hell for what she's done.
😞
I just realised. Maybe we don't want to prevent things like this. I
mean, that would mean a serious loss of job opportunities for journalists,
medical staff, law enforcement, legal puffs and others. Not to mention
very uninteresting news: "Today a woman was very well treated by the
man with whom she shares her life and she didn't use her infant child as
a bat to try and physically hurt the man. Witnesses report that she even
gave the man a kiss on the cheek before they both parted for work,
leaving the baby in the hands of a very proud grandmother. Usually one
of the parents stay home during the child's first years, but today they
both had to go to work, but being responsible parents they had already
planned everything to make it as easy as possible for the little infant. By
leaving the child with the familiar and loving grandmother they feel
confident that everything will be fine tonight, as they get home from
work."
No, you're absolutely right. Let's just call the woman crazy, recommend
her for the asylum and throw away the key. No excuses! No weakness!
HAI! WAKARI-MASU!

makes my heart sink for all the women out there that can not concieve...
Though I must admit I can't understand how she could do that. I don't think
I could ever do anything like that. Yet I know that as a human there's a lot
of things I can probably do that I can't imagine right now. I know it, because
other humans have done it, and I'm no better or worse than any of them. I
just live a very good life without much struggle, so it's easy for me to be
reasonable, law-abiding and responsible.

You are sounding like a weak minded, presumptious apologist, looking to blame others for what she did. If she attended a Marilyn Manson concert and then went home and smacked her husband with her child's head, your headline would be: "Marilyn Manson fan uses child as weapon", and he would be blamed for her retarded action.
She is no longer fit to live in a civilised society and as such should be removed from that society. I would just have her put down, you can pansy out and assign the responsibility for the child's welfare onto the world at large.
What could make you think that she is not crazy? Go on. Explain yourself.

Have any of you considered she could be suffering extreme post-natal depression? Look back through news media articles on the things other women have done and this story is not exceptional.
This is what I meant when I said we don't know the whole story and therefore cannot judge. PND is a very real and very frightening illness and sufferers should not be classed as crazy by people who have no understanding.
No mother in her right mind would do this to her baby - I rest my case! 🙂

If she had extreme post natal depression then it would have manifested itself before this act (she has had four children) and therefore she was a blithering idiot for trying to cover it up and should be held accountable anyway.
