Interesting response "if she had post natal depression.....". I didn't mention any race or colour as you inferred yourself! I also wrote ' I suspect! ' alcohol or drug abuse. Your response was bigoted! If you have any experience of child abuse, you may find that the majority of cases are where substance abuse is abundant, and that, where singular instances of abuse occur they also are resultant of moments of being uncontollable due to the same. Repetitive abuse is also included. In mental illness, it is rare for physical and mental abuse as the parent usually displays inability to have the manipulation to mentally abuse and that they still have innate understanding of sensuality against physial. So before you accuse me of referring to race, re-read my post. Bigot!

mean the authorities are necessarily playing the game. We just don't know
that, do we?

Who's fault was this? Was the man retarded, even though he had managed to live alone and support himself? Was the child being promiscuous? Maybe he was acting out some cultural ritual that we're not aware of?

In your words: "Maybe we don't want to prevent things like this. I mean, that would mean a serious loss of job opportunities for journalists, medical staff, law enforcement, legal puffs and others."

Your cynical insulation is vile.

Yes, I intentionally injected a racial slant on your comment, which makes just about as much sense as stating that she abused drugs or alcohol. This is not a regular case of child abuse. This is a case of CrAzY.

I like your approach. Bring up a case which can't possibly be viewed as
anything but vile and disgusting. Let's see him explain that one from his
humanitarian point of view. Heh, heh...

Well, guess what, even a sick, perverted person like this guy has a
history and a story to him. You think he was born that way? You think he
was always like that? I don't. Even if it can be proved that there are
physical causes to his aggressive and sexually deviated behaviour to
some extent, I'm pretty sure it can be dealt with if we learn more about
it, and the only way to do that is to try and understand what makes
these people do the things they do.

At least, I think that's a good bet. But you just keep with your simple
"judge, jury and stuff away"-philosophy. I'm sure it can prevent 9-year
old girls from being raped in the future, or little infants being used as
bats again. No wait. That's right. It didn't.

Quite the opposite, thanks. Don't insult my mother. Go study
post-partem, you may discover why you felt it necessary to make that comment!

"Mr. Couey had been registered as a sex offender after a 1991 conviction for exposing and fondling himself in front of a 5-year-old girl, but skipped counseling sessions and moved without informing parole officers of his whereabouts." Perhaps he didn't want to understand why he did those things either. Perhaps just wanted to carry on doing them. In any case, he blew an opportunity.

This guy is just one of the many sick perverts in this world, the sooner the authorities actually organise theirselves with keeping an eye on the registered sex offenders, the sooner these acts will start to decrease.
Let's hope it's soon!

Actually... she was drunk...

If being drunk is an excuse for such retarded behaviour, then we should ban alcohol.

The guy is sick. Is it his fault? No. Can we blame him for knowingly committing such offences instead of seeking counselling? Yes.

Oh wait. That's right. It didn't.

WHY?

"Mr. Couey had been registered as a sex offender after a 1991 conviction for exposing and fondling himself in front of a 5-year-old girl, but skipped counseling sessions and moved without informing parole officers of his whereabouts."

He exposes and fondles himself in front of a 5 year old girl, and they send him for counselling? Is that your humanitarian approach? He's a paedophile, he commits a paedophilic act, and his punishment is that we sit him down and discuss why it's not his fault that he cannot control himself? What kind of damn ridiculous logic is that?

Yes, we should try to understand why these people do these things, but by no means does it grant them any excuse.

Obviously, I'm not advocating giving convicted sex offenders (or otherwise
dangerous people) enough freedom to be able to repeat their offence.

But, perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps there is nothing that can be done to
prevent these things from happening, so why even try, eh? Just burn them
and leave their bloody corps to rot. That'll at least stop those particular
loonies.

I give up.
