That case is actually beyond 'desire' as you put it, but more obsession oriented. His pain had become a mental illness and he, indeed, was mentally ill. In the case of swinging a baby, that was a momentary response to being under the influence of a brain disorienting drug - alcohol! I also suspect that that woman is indeed alcoholic, and had further consumed prior to arriving home. We all know the limits of our own consumption, those of us who can control it. The alcoholic has no limit of control - the limit for such an abuser of substances is brain shutdown - passout! (even death!!). Unfortunately in this case the death was an innocent child. I think in the near future social services may be exposed as having had concerns since the birth of this child, but they neglected responsibility. And again, I bet, I'm not far wrong, unless conspiracy covers their tracks!
