@fmf saidSo sad to hear that. These women really need a possibility to find a better life. In this country it is less complicated - divorce is not hard to get, not even when partners disagree on the terms.
Wise words that apply to the culture in which I live - with its surfeit of deadbeat, adulterous and manchild husbands - except that it is socially and psychologically - and legally - difficult for women to initiate divorce unless there is a domestic violence angle.
Even then, the women are often 'blamed' for the beating and abuse they got and, economically, they get shafted ...[text shortened]... gs are changing in that regard and that gives the second line of your wise saying its ring of truth.
Somebody said (another quote) that it should be more difficult to marry, and easier to divorce than the other way around.
fmf, thank you for your post.
@torunn saidIt is easy to divorce, it is called never getting married.

@fmf saidI/we have no idea of your experience, only you saying so. In the past 3 decades, I've seen big changes, though there is always room for improvement. I don't think all parts of the world women are treated the same. I believe that to be a very inaccurate statement to make that they are treated the same.
In my experience - in different cultures in various parts of the world spread over three decades and with a fair bit of work done on issues affecting women - I'd say there's a good degree of universality in Torunn's wise saying.

@very-rusty saidYou're such a tedious and weak-minded poster! Where did I say in "all parts of the world women are treated the same"? Stop making stuff up that you find easy to disagree with. It's not a genuine conversation when you do.

@fmf saidWhat about men who's women abuse them. Did you know that is something that happens in the real world?
For many women who are victims of wife beating, "finding yourself" often means realizing that you are not to blame and that you can have a better life for you and your children. Another bit of "universal" wisdom for you, Eladar.

@very-rusty saidYep. It's a bears poo in the woods factoid.
