Can anyone tell me how Liverpool can win the league when their manager comes out with a statement like this:-

"For me, it was really difficult to win this game so we needed to think about the next one."

Nice one Rafa, keep on subbing Torres and Gerrard with 1/3 of the game to go.
ROFL.
I had to laugh at that one as well. He also took Carragher off. I've never seen a Premiership manager effectively ask the ref to blow up after 60 odd minutes.

I bet that Sky Sports will overhype the arse off of Sunday 16th Dec (Arse v Chels, LFC v Manure), calling it something like 'The Weekend Of Destiny',
'Grand Slam Sunday' it is 😞

We're going to be playing Tennis are we? Of course not you Sky Sports Twannies. What's wrong with 'Soccerball Blasttastic Day!' or 'The Sabbath Slashathon!'?

What did you make of this, LFC?

"We knew it was tough, because some of our players were playing a lot of games in a row," added Benitez.

"At 3-1 (down), you have to protect your good players."

Is throwing in the towel after 60 minutes standard practice on the Iberian peninsula?

Until you understand that managing a team implies that you can't just think about the next match but be forward-looking, then you won't understand Rafa's decision.

LOL.

"I'm not thinking about my own situation every day, I'm thinking about the team, about how to improve our performance," Benitez said. "You have to concentrate on the next match. Now I'm thinking about United."

Simple cost-benefit analysis! 😡

As getting 2 more goals was improbable with 20 mins to go, the potential gain (i.e. 1 league point) was not as large as progression through to the knock-out stages of the CL, which was more probable with a fit and fresh Torres/Gerrard/Carragher.

Not only is Rafa a football genius, he is a wizard economist too. Is there no end to this man's talents?

Long live Rafa.

Rafa threw in the towel and started subbing Liverpools best players when they were 2-1 down.
Played Vonorin as a winger.
Left the promising winger Babel on the bench, he needed a rest because he had a good game previously.
Rafa not wanting the 1 point or even an attempt at 3 is one of many reasons Liverpool will never win the league again.
Liverpool are a cup side.
Many teams will fear Liverpool in Europe, especially the dreaded penalty kick scenario.

Of course, tactical genearse, for sure.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd now occupy the top 4 positions in the Premiership and look likely to stay there for the rest of the season. It looks like Arsenal and Liverpool are mounting genuine challenges to Chelsea and Utd, which means we could have a four way fight and one of the best title races in years.

Place your bets

Position / Team ...[text shortened]... / Points

1 Arsenal 14 20 36
2 Chelsea 15 13 31
3 Liverpool 14 20 30
4 Man Utd 14 16 30
"The Big 4"

1 Manchester United 17 39
2 Arsenal 16 37
3 Chelsea 16 34
4 Manchester City 17 33

Job done, top of the league, good night.
