As getting 2 more goals was improbable with 20 mins to go, the potential gain (i.e. 1 league point) was not as large as progression through to the knock-out stages of the CL, which was more probable with a fit and fresh Torres/Gerrard/Carragher.

Not only is Rafa a football genius, he is a wizard economist too. Is there no end to this man's talents?
I was surprised Rafa didn't put out his reserve team today. He must have known that this game would be a tough one to win, so he could have adopted his strategy from the Reading game, and given up before the game had started, so that he could have rested players to play in Rafa's main priotiy: The Carling Cup.

Rafa says:-

“We are a team that has a lot of positives but this defeat is frustrating because we are very close to Manchester United. We just made one mistake and paid for it, just as we did last season.”

Just like you did last season Rafa?

You finished 20+ points behind United last season Rafa.
You have played the Champions, Chelsea and Arsenal at home and accumulated 2 points.

Maybe if you had taken the Reading game more seriously you would not be 10 points off the pace?

Also Carlos Tevez says long live zonal marking 😵

It was funny the way the 4 Liverpool players on the 6 yard line thought that the space was much more dangerous than Rooney and Tevez.

Fair play to Ferguson for figuring out a way to make a mockery of the zonal marking system. If more managers see how to exploit it, the Inter Toto cup might become a legitimate target for the Pool.

Should this thread really be closed now, and a new one entitled The "Big Three" be opened?

Benitez was being forward-looking. Like I said.

Try again.

They are not the Big Four - that is media propaganda. They are the EVIL FOUR. They are the money giants who are leeching the soul out of British football and preventing the premiership from being the true fought competitive league which it once was.

How so? Do Spurs not have any money to spend? What about Aston Villa, Newcastle, West Ham, Portsmouth, Man City, Everton?

Do you yearn for the more competitive days of yore, like the 80s when Liverpool won practically everything?
