we have free for all academic education here. well, with a nominal fee comparable to rhp subscription. nobody has to go kill anybody to get education.
Yeah, one college I was looking at going to was 44,000 dollars a year. Needless to say, I won't even be sniffing the air on that campus...

I honor the people who fought in the wars, but I don't honor the wars they stood for- whether it be Vietnam, Korea, or today's Iraq war.

Today is Memorial Day. First proclaimed in 1868, Memorial Day was reserved to honor soldiers who died in the Civil War, one of the nation's bloodiest conflicts and the only one fought by and against Americans on U.S. soil. This is a special day for Americans to remember the ultimate sacrifice that our service members in the Armed Forces have made on ...[text shortened]... it all: “Live free or die”!

ENJOY, BUT REMEMBER AMERICA! HAVE A BLESSED MEMORIAL DAY!
Thanks for the post George, well written. Hope you and the wife doing okay on this Memorial Day weekend. Keep the faith my friend.

free education? all the way. well, I just checked, autum 45.50 euros, spring 45.50 euros. paying both you get a little discount, only 85 euros. I'm under-grad at helsinki university of technology. post-grad is the same way.. only requirement for post-grad studies is I have to score 3.0 average, in 1-5 grading.

beats the hell out of 44 000$ a year... :-/

Errr wtf??

This was before his time.

My point is that Governments respond to pressure.

If the only pressure they get is some lobby group acting on behalf of some corporate enterprise what sort of politics do we get?

It's our responsibility to get really involved so I refer the honourable gentlemen to my original question:

If America is constantly concerned about repressive regimes and the suffering of those in other parts of the world then can you tell me why they chose to overlook the genocide of Rwanda and central Africa? There were no sophisticated chemical weapons (at least I don't think the Americans sold them any) just good old fashioned machetes but they still managed to carve up around 2 million. (The US army got their asses out of Somalia pretty damn quick too.)

This was done by the US and other countries (don't feel victimised here my American cousins) illegally since legislation has been in place after WWII to prevent any genocide that occurs anywhere in the world: the holocaust was to be the last of its kind.

I am not anti-American, my brother lives in the mid-west and some of the nicest and most decent people I have ever met have come from that part of the world. But while you are waving your flag, acting decently to one another why don't you think about why your government is so keen to protect those in the oppressed, oil-rich, Middle-East when they couldn't give a rat's ass about the worst genocide since WWII happening in Central Africa?

Remember, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance; wasn't it a great American who said those words?

This is not a failing of government: it is a failing of those who live in the western so-called enlightened democratised world.

I think Americans pretty much have their hands full at the moment. Tell me something. If it bothers the rest of the World, as it does bother many here in the U.S., Why don't they spend some of their money and go take care of the machete gorilla's? Isn't China supposed to have a bad azz Military. Tell them to do something to stop it. You want to blame Americans? Blame yourself.

No mad cow disease has been found in China, but has been found in America

He was talking about bird flu not mad cows. OK maybe he was. I think there is more documentation in Britain concerning Mad Cows. But I don't get the point anyway. My Point is, I wish America COULD do something. But where is the rest of the world? America can't do everything. Every time someone points their finger, they usually have three pointing back at them.
