And that is why Exy and others are such a loss to this site. For their clans and other friends they were willing to spend some time tutoring.

PS: to date no one has supplied any concrete evidence that Exy cheated. Which only leads me to believe that their were other factors at work in the decision to ban him from the site.

We are still trying to find any "overwhelming and conclusive evidence".

For those interested Exy and others in TPcc are happily playing chess elsewhere. PM me if you want to join us there.

Speculation on your part. Game Mods can't give out the evidence, for it would be a training course on how to get away with cheating.

Too bad you were duped by an 1100 player with a chess engine.

I hope it wasn't a clue; anyone has access to Exy's games... and should look at them all if they are so interested.

What I'm not interested in is having someone say Russ or the Game Mods have ulterior motives in banning Exy just because we can't give the evidence. I don't see any evidence saying he didn't cheat, and regardless... it would be wrong.

Great. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Russ, please delete the TPCC clan at once...

See, this is what I don't like.

Are the mod team assuming guilt and viewing tidbits of evidence as pieces in a jigsaw which prove guilt or are you giving players the benefit of the doubt, because it seems like an impossible thing to be objective on this.

So he played pretty poor chess at the start. Now, you can treat this as Exy's real standard of chess and the best he can achieve here. Anything better than this can be assumed to be indicative of engine use.

OR, you could assume that he didn't treat the site seriously when he first joined and played blitz. Maybe even drunken blitz. I know for a fact that my rating would plummet to maybe 1300 if I played this site blitz stylee.

When the case isn't clear cut, and assumptions are a key part of the "proof" of guilt, then how can you all expect us to accept what the team says without question. Especially when the games analysed by non-mods show mid 70% match up with Crafty (closest match). I don't have to mention that mods can sometimes benefit from bannings.

Game 1293167
Crafty
Exy - David Tebb
Clan league http://www.timeforchess.com, 21.07.2005

Total Moves Analysed: 63
1st Choice Matches where 1st choice < 0.3 pawn better than second choice: 22
%: 34.9%
1st Choice Matches where 1st choice > 0.3 pawn better than second choice: 26
%: 41.3%
Total 1st Choice Matches: 48
%: 76.2%
2nd Choice Matches: 3
%: 4.7%
Non matches: 12
%: 19%

In interpreting this, we have to make an assumption about Exy's true playing skills.

Is he a good player who wouldn't miss too many moves which will result in a 0.3 pawn advantage, or is he a patzer?

Either way, the evidence from that game isn't conclusive. But, it would look worse if we assumed the worst: that Exy was at best an 1100 player.

I assume Exy was an 1100 player.
I know Exy cheated.

These are 2 very different statements, one having nothing to do with the other.

I think you have a good point.

I had a superior endgame against Vovochka last night.
Game 1397668 When he wanted to trade queens I took a couple sips from my drink and moved my rook to cover my queen, overlooking that his queen was also attacking my knight!
😞

SO after he took the knight I resigned... does this mean I'm really an 1100 player who beats class A players because I use an engine?

I think that with this statement you've crossed from absurdity to caricature:

I don't see any evidence saying he didn't cheat, and regardless... it would be wrong.

It sounds like djbecker talking about the Theory of Evolution.

It's a heck of a thing. It is really too bad the evidence can't be shared, but it was good enough for the guy who runs this site to boot him.

That is, of course, his prerogative. But it would be more accurate to say that there is a refusal to share even the specific conclusions as to how and when Exy cheated rather than it "can't be shared". Such information could be shared if "the guy who runs the site" decided to do so, could it not?

No, really... we can't. Any info given out would never be enough, and just make it impossible to catch cheats in the future.
