Have you had your computer checked for spyware?

??? ... who said that? ... if so, why ban you then? ...

Yes, I work in IT and my PC is free of Spyware. I've tried to find what methods Russ is using. I am convinced it's not Spyware but a legitmate functionality in Winboard that can be exploited.

You have to realise I have not been told specifically why I've been banned.

Many people have said that - the Game Mods told me themselves until I was under investigation that my own games were of use in unmasking engine users cos my playing style is so human.

In short, how did you get so good so quickly? Perhaps I could emulate you, I'm about the same level as when you started.

Flex, I grew stronger but I have never been super-human. I still make mistakes, I still play pretty much for fun and perhaps still don't take the game as seriously as some think I should.

I was here for the clan games and for the fun of playing in a team, I've never been compelled to drive myself to the top of the player tables.

Perhaps the mods could answer this (in the negative) without giving too much away:

Would you ban someone simply for having a chess engine running on their computer while logged on to RHP?

(A "no" answer would of course leave open the possibility the mods have no idea whether an engine is running or not.)

But, in my opinion, this isn't going to help things on RHP in the long term, even if he really does turn out to be an 1100 player. It would be interesting though.

interesting idea ... in this case it might be very good being in that part of the world ... but it would set an unfortunate precedent for the rest of us.

The question which would be more logical is why were you so bad to begin with? Also "so good, so quickly"? 1800 average rating over 2 years, no big shakes.

The anwser to that is, I played school team chess until my teens. I have always had a flair for the game. When I used this site as a non-subsriber I really couldn't care less about the games I played. I had no idea that I was going to enjoy the site and subscribe, I tended to make my moves after being out for the evening and was often not sober and only getting back into the game after a 15 year break.

When I decided to subscribe I stopped playing when I was drunk and started to concentrate and get back into the game and the more I played good mentoring players from here the stronger I got. I also started to use websites like www.chesslive.de to analyse positions and learn openings.

This is all known about me, and used to be on my profile here. My area of interest has always been the clan team play. I'd resign a won game if it meant finishing a clan match to bag points for the team. People can say I didn't repsect the game or take it as seriously as I should but that was my choice and how I enjoyed playing at the site.

can i rephrase ... did you improve your skill?

or

did you stop playing fast/ drunk/ tired etc

i have nothing against you at all ... but a long time ago i did pick your improvement as extreme ... did you study like mad, or did you just show us your true self ( - or did you turn on an engine?)

Yes, I stopped moving when I'd been out on the beer. I started to analyse positions, deliberately learnt varied openings, or made them up to throw people. Learnt by playing strong opponents like No1, Eyeqpc, Arrakis, Slow Pawn, Nyxie, IceKnight, Prawn Sarnie, Fivel (what happened to him) and many more, there are some great players at this site. I've never thought of myself as great, just competent and unconventional.

It's just that I haven't heard anyone else say "no big shakes".

hehehe - it seems you just answered my question above ...

now ...

if rhp confronts another player like youraelf, then honestly ... how should we respond? i suspect the mods have more than suspicion, but even the suspicion is pretty solid "circumstancial" evidence.

you must see that such behaviour does not build character ... though your general presence onsite does make up for it to some degree.

regardless of all this, i wish you luck 😉

Well, I was on average around 140th in the player tables. I'm not a Meman or a Gatecrasher or Tebb. I've never, ever, shown the promise of being and the fact I beat Tebb in one game (a very tough game that I nearly blew due to nerves) doesn't prove anything. I doubt I could beat him again if we played another 50 times.
