Wow! After sitting here reading through all this I'm not too sure where to begin. I have read far more offensive stuff in my life time than shavs post last night. It was not meant (I think) to be crude or disrespectfull. It was entertaining to say the least. I agree completely that if it's alright to discuss war, politics and religion then what's wrong with discussing sex. The main argument is that there are people as young as 13 who have access to this site. Well I can and have looked at this from both sides of the coin.
Side 1: As an adult female with vast knowledge and experience with sex.
I may appear to some to be stiff and rigid in my views on sexuality but this is simply not the case. My beefs are not against sex or the open discussion of it, my standpoint is one of the degradation of women via sexual exploitation. I agree that open communication between men and women is the only way to dispel any sexual misconceptions that both sexes may have. Doing this via an online forum where sex is not the direct object of content allows for people to be even more open and willing to discuss sex and sexuality. Questions and conversations that a person might not normally strike up with anyone else or in person with someone due to the intamicy and boundaries that sex sustains.
Side2: As a mother of three daughters, one nearing her teen years.
First point on this subject that I can't stress enough; DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILDREN TO SURF THE NET UNSUPERVISED! Always be aware and present when your kids (especially teens) are online.
Computers in the bedroom are simply asking for serious trouble. How many teen girls are on the net stripping and masterbating in front of their web cams from their bedrooms. Where is the parental supervision? Our computer is in the living room in full view of myself. Would I want my 13 yr old daughter to have read last nights post? First of all I would have been present if/as she read it and as embaressing as it might have been for me it would have been sure to spark a conversation in which I could have answered any questions she might have formed from reading it. To think that 13 year old children are not whispering and giggling about sex with their friends behind closed doors is extremely naive. I would prefer to moniter and inform my own kids with accurate knowledge. Is it worse for a teenager to gain somewhat of a sexual understanding in a forum such as this with a variety of opinions and experiences or to just click on a misrepresentaion of sex through an online porn site?
