I haven't read most of this thread, and don't know much about football, but which teams do you think would not be at the World Cup if the qualification stage was not split into regions?

My point is, with the current system, some of the teams present might not be among the best in the world.
Australia are in the in the Oceania section and the winner (australia) plays in a playoff V the 5th placed team in the South America section (uraguay) Australia won on pens.
Next time they have switched to the Asian section.
Japan are in the asian section.
