I just finished this game a minute ago, and Id have to say its probably one of the best games I have played on this site, and against one of the strongest opponents I have faced, he has beat me it seems about 14 times in a row...and I have finally beat him...

Game 4081077 against Maris61

All together, outta 17 games now against Maris61, this is my second win, my first game when Maris first joined the site and was only rated around 1980 at the time... altogether 2 win 15 losses 🙁 not a very good stat

Well done, that was a nice game and the queen sac to finish was the icing on the cake. Weird how Black seemed completely oblivious to the fact that you were attacking him on the h-file.

I agree, it was a very simple ending...sort of like what gatecrasher said about an earlier game, where his opponent was totally unaware of the pending attack until it was much to late. I think Maris got side tracked with his positional play on the queen side, and once the i placed the bishop on the f-file the tactics were pretty simple from there.

Nice win. As Cludi pointed out to me, I have great difficulty seeing mid-board mates and the rook sac is not a move I would consider.

Now that I've looked at the other game you posted it seems clear to me that the way to beat Maris is to attack him on the h-file. Maybe it's to do with his eyes - according to Bill Hartston in "How to cheat at chess", players whose eyes are too close together are liable to miss things happening on the flanks.

Here's a couple of my games I like (although nowhere near f.i. vipiu's game)
Game 3886633 against Quirine
Game 3707885 against Nallapuh
Some interesting endgame moves in those 2.
Game 3787483 against ItsYouThatIAdore
(just j/k 😉)

thanks, there are 3 posted in here now that even after infinite analysis the computers can't find wins. Mine, sicilian smaugs, and yours... all very pretty games though I must give yours first place.

I remember half a year ago (I think) when procyk posted a game (I think it was a KID four pawns attack) in wich he sacrified a lot and the finally the black king got mated. I was very impressed by that game and would very much like to see it again. Procyk, if you hear me: Pleeeease post it again so we all can have a look at it. I am always impressed by players who dare to go all out and sacrifice! 🙂
