Originally posted by KeplerI agree that the ratings between the sites may not be completely comparable but look at the games. Remember wilfried lost only 2 games out of 172 on this site. The games played on chesshere.com are not those of someone who is able to play to that sort of standard.
I'll remember not to improve too much then. If we are comparing ratings from different sites then the comparison is meaningless. There is no way to standardise the ratings from the two sites so a rating of 1800 there may well equate to a rating of 2300 here.

If you compare Wilfried's games from chesshere.com:

To the ones he played on this site:

I think you'd have to agree that he showed a remarkable improvement in his playing ability for someone in their fifties.

One thing is for sure, he was consistent with his identity on all the sites he played on.

Well I am quite worried then. How could Wilfred be banned if you were unsure that he had a computer-like style? Mods reported him and didn't know if he was an engine user...should you only report engine use if you are very sure...100% sure? 😕
This is the only banning I have felt uncomfortable with.
I'd like to explain what I meant when I wrote it, which is also an answer to your worries about the banning of Wilfried:
The game mods are not interested in a particular game, ie mine against wilfried. It is almost impossible to deduct anything from a single game, unless obvious "engine errors" occur.
What we're interested in, is a pattern of style over many, many games. This method is very revealing and very reliable.
Believe me, we've tested thousands of games played by strong humans to make sure the method is working and reliable.
We are of course 100% sure of wilfried being an engine user, otherwise he wouldn't have been reported, but I still can't tell if he cheated in the games against me - and it really isn't important if he did or not...
Originally posted by Fat LadyThat assumes they are the same person. I play elsewhere but do not use Kepler as my name because someone else got there before me. Even comparing the games between sites demonstrates nothing without cast iron evidence that we are dealing with the same person. If they were the same person I would have thought the engine user would use the same engine on the other site so I suspect it is highly unlikely they actually are the same person.

Originally posted by KorchI was surprised by Samir Shomali as when I played him before christmas he did not seem to be cheating (I went through a few of his games before I played him). He must have subscribed taken on 300 games and then found the burden too great.
wilfried User 117966
opaline User 295081

Samir Shomali User 264478
I dont feel surprised about wilfried (he seemed to be too perfect for human) and opaline (who won cheater denzil53 with result 2:0 in clan match). Other two I did not know at all.
Originally posted by z00tI've just looked at a couple of his games and nothing jumped out at me.

Maybe there are the tell tale signs in just a single game of some totally obvious engine moves.
Originally posted by Dance Master MCno it's not 😛... engines have a very distinct style... they will never be the first to leave documented opening material, they have no sense of things such as poison pawns etc... they do not go out of their way to complicate the position like many CC players do.
what about the small possibility that someone COULD just happen to make the same moves as an engine?, or even the smaller possiblility that they could be making moves that match an engines throughout all of there games, it is a very true possibility.
you just 'know'.
