That picture disgusts me. It also tells me a few things.
1. Topalov is NO true competitor. No real competitor is overjoyed about winning because of a forfeit. A REAL competitor wants to prove that that they ARE THE BEST, not "the best" because the other player didn't show up.
2. This was one big setup. The only reason he is happy, is because he DID win by the rules of the FIDE, not by playing chess. Is this what being "FIDE World Champion" is all about? The person that plays the best set of FIDE rules? Not the best chess game?
Kramnik, you might as well go home. There is not a worthy competitor for you in Elista.
So basically, Topalov still wins, because he gets a free game out of it. Pitiful! So precedent has now been set. When you are behind, pitch a hissy fit and make all sorts of accusations and you can get a free win! Ridiculous. It should still be 3-1.
tmetzler, you're right, when I first saw that picture, it disgusted me too.

Being FIDE World Chess Champion has never remotely meant being best at chess.
Just ask Alexander Khalifman, Ruslan Ponomariov, or Rustam Kasimdzhanov.
I see nothing that indicates that Kramnik has agreed to play the match with Topalov awarded Game 5. Such a result would: A) Be extremly illogical given that the ridiculous "toilet issue" has been resolved in Kramnik's favor AND the Appeal's Committee has resigned en masse; and B) Give Topalov an absurd advantage allowing him back into the match without the bother of winning a game across the board.
I have been hoping for a fair resolution, but if the resolution is that Topalov wins game 5 without playing, I am done with this match and anything FIDE has to do with chess.

Surely just the number of times that he's leaving the table must be considered an unreasonable distraction for Topalov. If he isn't sick, then what can be a reasonable excuse? There are other places to go to think in private, surely?
Chess is very much a physical game, with mental endurance being very physically dependent (look at the relative youth of mo ...[text shortened]... players, they must either resign or suffer, as an injured athlete in any other contest would.
Then comes the second thought.
Wasn't this Toilet gate planed well ahead of the match?
Making a contract with "private bathroom" connected to the "relaxation room" with no video recording. Then all they have to do is raise as much suspicion as possible so Topalov's team react and voila! Or the other variation. Kramnik gets as much opinions, tips and ideas from his team as he can get withour restrictions.
No matter how you view it. Kramnik's morals are questionable.
Kramnik is grown up person. He should very well know that going 50 times to the bathroom is not "normal". People start thinking that chess players are "freaks", by going without need so many times and requesting "private bathrooms".
Give me a break.
I went to play chess today, everyone including one russian guy agreed 50 visites to the WC is not normal. And none of them saw any wrongdoing from Topalov's side.
Originally posted by Los AngelesYou must hang out with a bunch of morons. I've never heard of anyone who agreed with being videotaped while they were in the bathroom. Maybe Topalov shouldn't have agreed to the terms if they were so terrible, but they seemed to be fine until he started blundering.
Agree.

BTW, I guess you didn't read the part of the Appeals Committee letter that said Topalov was exaggerating about the number of times Kramnik went to the bathroom. It's still none of Topalov's business either way though. And it seems the only hold up now is that your "obviously superior" Topalov wants a win without playing the game!
For me and my friends this type of
"crazy" driving is not normal.

But India is a third world country.
May be in Kramnik's culture that's what they do, go hundreds of times per day to the bathroom for a walk or for natural needs.
But who am I to know who is right and who wrong, and what is normal for all and what not?
