I see Topalov has a parapsychologist called Zukar on his team.

Ho ho.

"The start of the game has been delayed to settle the controversy between the two sides. Update: Topalov is sitting at the board, Kramnik's clock is running. The 'game' started at 15:22h Elista time. Kramnik is in his rest room, and is waiting for his toilet to open. The press conference of Makropoulos is about to start. So far it seems the game is not going to start unless the toilet is open... *"

apparently kramnik has announced to hold a press conference after losing on time.

it's hard to believe these are two grown-up men.

I think Kramnik is correct. If his rights are not respected, then I hope he loses every single game on time just to clarify forever that FIDE is a farce and Topalov a joke champion.

To think Kirsan was primarily reelected because this glorious reunification was coming together . . .

Its amusing watching Yassers comments......

Yasser Seirawan - Deaer Woef, clear. I demand my own toilet, one with a warm seat as well!

Yasser Seirawan - And my chair could be improved as welll...

Emailchess - the chess world will lose even the latest sponsors

Yasser Seirawan - Yes but we may GAIN new toilet sponsors! The plumbers earn a lot of money!

Yasser Seirawan - Yes, I freely confess that my commentaries "improve" after the bathroom break... I guess its because I'm no longer as nervous as before.

Yasser Seirawan - I wonder if Kramnik might be trapped in his toilet... Could be locked... Never know.

This is very silly.

Topalov's initial complaint was a bit daft (charitable interpretation). But now Kramnik's passed on the chance to take the moral high ground. He could have continued and shown himself to be above these petty issues.

Unfortunately, it appears he's not.

Both players have been very badly advised here.

ultimately both are doing the same thing: enforcing their contracts. it's stubborn, maybe even stupid, but they both do have the right. their managers even the resposibility to do it.

it has nothing to do with topalov accusing or kramnik refusing to use another toilet instead of the one he now insists on. it's all about contracts.

edit: somebody cracked the opening in question is "the toilet gambit declined." 😵

Where does it say in Topalov's contract that he may decide how often Kramnik can use his toilet? For that matter, where does it say Topalov may veto Kramnik's use of a contractually-allowed toilet?

The violation is all on one side.

What a fiasco! Topalov is an idiot for filing such a complaint, the match organizers are idiots for changing the rules in the middle of the match and Kramnik is an idiot for not blowing this petty BS off! Unbelievable!

EDIT: Then again, Topalov wins the "WTF??" award for this line from his team's letter:

When the two players need to go to the bathroom, they should be accompanied by an assistant arbiter.

Except Kramnik is the one that refused to play (Topalov threatened to, but didn't carry it out). All Topalov has done is make a protest (a ridiculous one, it has to be admitted, but he's allowed to do that).

They've all been stupid, and it's a mess,

Is anyone else just really sad about all this? It's so pathetic I can't even muster an appropriate level of outrage. The serious chess community may be losing one of their bigger fans over the past 10 years.
