That's one of the most brilliant combinations that I've ever seen! Not just on this site, but anywhere! I checked it with an engine and both the rook and queen sacrifices were completely correct, winning in all variations. If you worked everything out before sacrificing the rook, then you must be a genius!

19..Rxg2!!

This is definitely the harder sacrifice to calculate, although the subsequent queen sacrifice is more spectacular. Although Rxg2 is the kind of move that many attacking players would want to work!

It reminded me of one of Tal's sacrifices, except that they were usually unsound, but this was 100% sound!

This reminds me greatly of a game I had last year (though without the queen sacrifice)

Nicest game I've ever seen. Can I call you Tal?

Terrific. Once the Queen sac was made, the rest was like joining the dots. I particularly like where the king wound up.

That's a marvelous conception. I don't see how Black can possibly have sufficient compensation for the R if it were not for QxN+.

i.e. if it weren't for QxN, Neg1 should sufficiently protect the knight and I do not see the compensation for the rook.

So it requires Black to see the forced mate if QxN+ KxQ before the R sac.

So...very nice, if you missed Bg3 then you were very fortunate to find QxN...very nicely done!
no, Neg1 is not protecting enough(because the K will be still pinned and somehow trapped and you can bring B into attack too, and N is already there), you get back at least a piece+pawn+activity for the rook (this I figured out in the game before Rxg2, now with engine I can see that I easily win also in that line)
(edit: if you say Neg1 after Bg3...yes, in this line I saw Q sack before)

[fen]r3k1r1/3bb2p/1q3p2/p1p1pn2/2Pp4/1P3N1P/P ...[text shortened]... e of one of Tal's sacrifices, except that they were usually unsound, but this was 100% sound!
the played line I figured out complitely on R sack because it is the only line not refuted by Bg3...but even I used a couple of hours before Rxg2 I still remember that I found some line for white when I get only piece+pawn+attack for rook, but now I regret that I did not write down the lines as I was probably wrong, the computer says Rxg2 is winning...
funny though that my Fritz 10 doesn't find Rxg2 in 1 minute with infinite analysis...but after I move it and again analyzing for some time it says it is winning...
pobably if I give it more time it will find it...

(genius? haha, no way...maybe genius in one game-even I would call it luck and inspiration...and retard in other games 🙂 )

yes, about the same pin...mine was even easier to see in some point of view as the my N check-fork threat next was coming like a glove on that Q pin

thank you all...
it is nice that you have time to check many variations in a correspondence game...in a OTB game there is simply not enough time for this...

actually I read some thread before with some positions from Kotov(I do not remember the exact name of the thread) where Kotov was saying "the position is asking for some strong play here"...and I felt like this...that white whould consolidate with Ng3 if I do not do something strong...

Congratulations on that - the best I have ever seen! Too bad he didn't let you finish it off properly.

The fact that you have Korch and DavidTebb talking's pretty remarkable too.

Agreed!

Actually I think the game was pretty much over after 19...Rxg2!!. The Q sac wasn't neccessary, but it was consistent. And cool!

Not in a million years would I ever see that R sac!

Very nice. I've played 10 move combinations before myself...but I've always found out where my analysis went wrong by the third or fourth move 😉. That is a game for you to save for many years!
