Wrong attitude mate. Act like that and you won't give yourself a chance to win. You need to look at such games as a chance to make a statement and test your skills against someone who is likely to punish you inaccuracies.

Oh, but I am. But I put my energy at those games where I have a chance to win. To win a opponent 300 points above myself takes energy better spent to opponents with a rating more equal to mine.
But you're right - of course - it's a matter of attitude.

Admittedly my rating is a little low and his is only 200 points above mine, but should I have simply given up here when he played an early e5 (waaaay out of book)?

I get beat by the Grob by a player at my club. It's not necessarily a good opening, it's just tricky and unorthodox.
