Never heard so much whining in my life about chess; just play for the fun of the thing and get a life.

Add TippedKing to the list. I claim all timeouts.

I consider this to be unsporting behaviour and suggest we all avoid such players.

Please add other players we should avoid!
I just took a timeout.

He was on vacation, but he didn't leave a return date, he had already let his timebank deplete a few days, and he was a non-sub, so knows when he would come back?

And I don't feel the least bit sorry.

Your ratings good enough to indicate you should be able to win by fair means.
Time outs are imminently fair. Both players agree to the time limit in advance. Both players have the same amount of time at the beginning of the game. Both players know in advance that they may lose the game if their time lapses.

What real excuse does any player have for being too obtuse to include enough timebank to cover their vacations??

3. When you take vacation with a coming back-time - during your vacancy you are totally excluded from RHP, and your opponent moves are not to be seen by you or anyone else, like a sealed envelope.

I see the point here--but I don't think people should have to specify a return date. How about just making it so that you cannot view your games while your vacation flag is up?
Yes, it's fair. The return date is just an informative thing.
When you return, you reset the vacation flag and you're airbourne again.

None. Exactly. Agreed.

I made that arguement before,Someone said it was totally different. To me it's the same thing. There is a time limit in both correspondence and OTB timed games. If you exceed the time limit, you lose the game,in both cases.
Yes.that sure is different.

Gosh, some people really lose sight of why they started to play chess......its a fun game. Unless someone is clearly abusing the timeout flag why click it, your RHP rating counts for jack sh** which probably means you're either here for pure fun or to learn. You learn nothing from constantly clicking time out flags and I cant see it being fun either.

Equally if you're timed out......its a game......why cry about it.

Time is a part of Chess. A totally lost position may not be recognised as so by any player in time trouble. Time out is a right and should be used at all costs.

You bring up a good point and I somewhat agree. Chess isn't about abusing timeouts and your rating doesn't matter. I am here to learn or have fun. With that said, I will add that I should be on this list as I will often take timeouts, but simply to reduce my total number of games. I tend to sign up for too many games when I am bored, and then not have enough time for them later. I've been timed out enough that I don't really have any remorse anymore, but I agree with you in principal, timing people out just for the rating points (and starting games with no timebank purely in the hope of getting wins on time), isn't fun and generally not the point of the game.

Edit: I agreed with you enough for a rec.

Thanks, rec returned, what you said makes a lot of sense. You take on a lot of games so play more but as a result of doing so, you tend to time out more. I wonder if this is the same for everyone with a high number of games.

I guess its easy for someone with only 20 odd games to say that timing out (when not being abused) is totally pointless but when people have say 50+ it might become a way to save time on moves.....instead of playing complex middle game positions they can just time out two games start two more then bash out theory for a few weeks. I guess its just down to people tastes.
