Ration--I meant ratio--how did that bread slip in
Christ loves old Factory Records bands. I know that for a fact.

Not if what they said about Jesus in Mark 7:37 is true.

ok... a debate has sort of started in the Debates forum stating that Catholics are NOT Christians?

i am really finding this hard to get my head round... can anyone here help me understand?
You have to take account of the person making this claim.

PrinceofOrange is clearly a supporter of the Orange Order, which originates in the occupied north of Ireland and is essentially a vehicle for anti-catholic sectarianism. You're lucky he accepts catholics as human beings.

Their tentacles extend to the West of Scotland, where PoO and I both are.

A shame to see such bigotry in a 16-year-old.

That is a dreadful shame. Some of the male members of my family used to have very close ties to the Orange Order. I was very happy to hear that they turned in their sashes about six years ago.

Sure you're not confusing them with Hare Krishnas?

Hand out some bongos and get the Orangemen in a drum circle.

God, I'd rather be an Orangeman than a Krishna.

Being a Christian doesn't prevent you from being a prick. I can still be an absolute bastard and call myslef a Christian.

What about the Christians who were around before the Bible?
What?
That doesn't make any sense - the derivation of the word Christian is Christ. The Christ of the New Testament.

Can't you have atheist Christians then?

The term 'Christian' has a well-understood (if not well-articulated) meaning that is more than just "anyone who calls himself a Christian".
This is remininscent of the Death of God theology from the 60s - check out the Christian Theologian - Althizer (?) I think.
I don't think it really makes sense though - Christianity hinges on issues of God, Jesus as Divine, and so on.
Sure, you might act like a Christian - in the sense of loving your neighbour and being compassionate and all that, but I try to be like that, which doesn't make me a Christian.
You might doubt some of the central issues of Christianity - the resurrection, the virgin birth, etc. - John Shelby Spong has written very interesting critiques of these, and he's a Christian Bishop!
But I don't think you could be an atheist and a Christian.

Did you read the post to which I replied? It seems not from your response.

Did you see the author of the post you'd responded to?
Unless there's another amannion out there, I'm guessing it was me, so I think I might have read it ...

That's exactly right. Moreover, according to ivanhoe, the only way to correctly understand the Bible is to have a Catholic priest explain it to you.

I suggest the best way to stamp out all these people claiming to understand the Bible for themselves and not following the teachings of the Catholic Church is to go back to printing it only in Latin.

But the Latin version's already a translation! Oh, bother...Have to start channeling in Aramaic.

The previous president of Zambia declared Zambia a 'Christian Nation' in order to get himself more political support. The only problem is, nobody is quite sure what it means.
