@suzianne saidYou do not understand the bible. There are two bible teachings about judging. One is about allowing God to do the judging of those outside the church. The other is an instruction by Paul that the members of the church can and should judge each other so that they can:
I would say, rather, "Judge not, for your judgement clouds your love for your fellow man."
We are not told to judge, yet we are told to love.
And yet, it seems that humans would rather judge than love.
We are the ones at fault, not those we judge.
- sort out matters among themselves instead of going to an outside body to intervene in their affiars
- decide who are worthy of being in the Church which is supposed to be the body of Christ.
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. (1 Corinthians 5:11-13 KJV)
My personal view is that churches are already in a mess and are not the body of Christ anyway. The church leaders are therefore hypocritical if they continue to sin while at the same time removing from the church others who sin.
@eladar saidOf course it is. So is adultery and all other clearly identified sins in the bible. .. stealing, greed, materialism, idolatry, gossiping, gluttony etd etc.
@Rajk999
So you are saying homosexuality is a sinful lifestyle choice.
I dont see too many church members being excommunicated for over-eating, or gossiping about peoples private business though. Therefore the church is hypocritical.
@rajk999 saidNo, I asked for clarification. I was wondering where Jesus spike of over eating as a sin and where it is defined.
Sounds like over-eating is your problem.
Some people who eat over 2000 calories are super fit while some who eat 2000 calories a day are super fat. Both eat the same the difference is exercise and perhaps metabolism.

@eladar saidJesus did not come to identify the entire range of sins. Jesus came to identify what was right and good and to change the false idea that professing of faith and mouth worship and external appearances of holiness would fool God. The entire range of sins are covered in the bible. Jesus spoke noting of homosexuality but it is covered in the rest of the bible. The bible speaks of gluttony as well. Read it.

@rajk999 saidSo now you claim that everything we need to know was not spoken with Jesus' words. You have done a flip flop on that issue.

Jesus did speak against homosexuality when he spoke against sexual immorality.
Now, what is the definition of sinful over eating as defined by the Bible.
@eladar saidThe only thing flip flopping is your brain.

Everything you need to know about eternal life in the Kingdom of God was spoken by Jesus Christ. He came to [apart from dying] set things straight for the Jews because the Pharisees made a mess of the Law of Moses by enforcing their own application of the Law.
Everything that Gentiles need to know about sins can be found in the writings of Paul. The wisdom of David and Solomon are also useful. Have a read.
Solomon said that if you a man that likes to eat do not go by a rich mans house for dinner.

@rajk999 saidRajk and myself don't agree on much but he is correct with this issue. The commands from God in the OT are extremely clear on homosexuality. God detest it to the degree that he destroyed 2 cities because of it.

So did those laws by God change once Jesus came to earth? Not at all. But as was mentioned here he did forgive ones who had been "practicing" sins such as with the prostitute. He could read her heart and with the things he comforted her with he knew she was not going to "practice" prostitution/fornication/adultery afterwards.
This would also apply to various other sins that we can be forgiven for such as , alcoholism, being a thief, homosexuality, etc.
We all sin but when one purposely continues to practice a sin, there is no forgiveness and that person is to be shunned. If one in society "practices" rape and the judicial systems knows this will not end, that person is confined to jail or prison and could be there for life, hence that person is also shunned.
If Jesus had seen that the prostitute was still going to "practice" her sin, his conversation would have no doubt been different.
No matter the sin that one "practices" it can still be forgiven but that person has to stop the intentional practicing of that sin.
1 John 3:4
Everyone who practices sin is also practicing lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
1 Timothy 5:20
Reprove before all onlookers those who practice sin, as a warning to the rest.
1 John 3:6
Everyone remaining in union with him does not practice sin; no one who practices sin has either seen him or come to know him.
1 John 3:9
Everyone who has been born from God does not practice sin, for His seed remains in such one, and he cannot practice sin, for he has been born from God.
Hebrews 10:26
For if we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left,
1 Corinthians 15:34
Come to your senses in a righteous way and do not practice sin, for some have no knowledge of God. I am speaking to move you to shame.
1 John 3:8
The one who practices sin originates with the Devil, because the Devil has been sinning from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was made manifest, to break up the works of the Devil.
1 John 5:18
We know that everyone who has been born from God does not practice sin, but the one born from God watches him, and the wicked one cannot take hold of him.
1 Corinthians 6:18
Flee from sexual immorality! Every other sin that a man may commit is outside his body, but whoever practices sexual immorality is sinning against his own body.
Deuteronomy 20:18
so that they may not teach you to follow all their detestable practices that they have done for their gods, causing you to sin against Jehovah your God.
@eladar said'If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you have your fill of it and vomit it.' (Proverbs 25:16)
I ask again, how does the Bible define over eating so we can know what we are doing is sinful.
'Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.' (Philippians 3:19)
'Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat, for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags.' (Proverbs 23:20-21)
'They tested God in their heart by demanding the food they craved.' (Psalm 78:18)
Following six weeks of fasting Jesus was starving and near death. It was at this vulnerable point that the Devil tempted Jesus with food. Though famished, Jesus spoke the words that every glutton today can memorize and live by. “Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4, NIV)
