There were no statistics in your post.

You've been duped if you think man is improving. You must watch a lot of TV.

your assertion is that this is the worst time to be alive. this means you think every other century in history was a better time to be alive. so i challenge you to tell me why being alive in the 1200's is better than life today?
You may not look them up but here is some compelling stuff...

Only two of the ten here were before 1914.

The list quite clearly precludes all but two "worst moments in human history" that pre-date 1914.

And some of the things included make the list sound a bit like some back-of-an-envelope web content rustled up in 15 minutes by a 'journalist' battling a deadline.

For instance, how did "Fanatical Terrorism" ~ complete with a list of recent attacks on US targets ~ make the "Top Ten" when, say [to mention just two of many pre-1914 horrors that could have been listed], the Chalisa famine in India in 1783 killed 11,000,000, or what have been as many as 100,000,000 killed by the European colonization of the Americas from about 1500 onward did not make the list?

What a peculiar list. When you chose to share it with us, did you double check to ensure it doesn't simply constitute 'confirmation bias' on your part?

Yes you are right on many of those points. But is this all true earth wide? Is it true in every country?

Don't these points merely have to be happening for most people on earth ~ and to varying degrees in almost every country ~ for us to be able to conclude that your the-world-is-going-from-bad-to-worse' hypothesis is not supported by the evidence?

For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

less crime? yes our friends the virtuous bankers, helping things get better and better. Here is a list of some of the fines and its by no means exhaustive.

$1.9bnHSBC, money-laundering lapses
$1.5bnUBS, Libor rigging
$920mJPMorgan, trading scandal
$780mUBS, aiding tax fraud
$667mStandard Chartered, breaching sanctions
$619mING, breaching sanctions
$612mRBS, Libor manipulation
$550mGoldman, misleading investors
$536mCredit Suisse, breaching sanctions
$500mABN Amro, breaching sanctions
$451mBarclays, Libor manipulation

clearly its just getting better and better! All you need to do is relinquish your national sovereignty and the IMF will 'help', you by making your citizens an offer they cannot refuse. Just ask the Irish and the Greeks.

So is your belief that things are going from bad to worse not based on good points or bad points? Is it not based on the actual events, but on what you believe should be happening, regardless of what the reality is?

Yes, there is crime in the world, including corporate crime. Indeed, the world faces many problems.

can you explain why im "statistically ignorant." as you so kindly put it.

In 50 years when the worlds population gets to 10 billion and the population will be much older, there will be more people dying of old age than ever before in the history of the planet! Its going to be terrible.

your first link is no good, its just a list put in order using no particular method other than based on the authors feelings. your last list is also pretty meaningless in the context of the debate. we all know this century has been violent.

your middle link has some merit, it does show that deaths through war was particularly high during this century. it compares against several other centuries and looks like the worst, but i would point out that lots of other particularly violent centuries are missing such as the 1200's. as ive already pointed out a century in which 11% of the earths population was killed. that make the 1200's higher on your list than this century.

so if these are the worst times, what time would you rather live in?
