(1 Timothy 6:10 NASB)[/b]The KJV says that money is the root of all evil. Not all 'sorts' of evil.
Anyway, Cain was the first religionist. When I talk about religion I'm equating the act of a man that he assumes pleases God.
James 1:27 says, "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world."
"Pure religion" that is "undefiled" means keeping "unspotted from the world".
James 1:26 equates religion to having ones tongue bridled. There are three other references to religion made by Paul in regards to his previous affiliation to Israels religion given to her by God through Moses.
Otherwise, when I use the term, I'm not talking about denominationalism, I'm referring to the acts of a man that he considers acceptable to God in relation to his faith.

In 50 years when the worlds population gets to 10 billion and the population will be much older, there will be more people dying of old age than ever before in the history of the planet! Its going to be terrible.
But if does, science will develop a 'vaccine' against aging by then!
Then the population will double in 1 year and most everybody will die of starvation. 😲

less crime? yes our friends the virtuous bankers, helping things get better and better. Here is a list of some of the fines and its by no means exhaustive.
$1.9bnHSBC, money-laundering lapses
$1.5bnUBS, Libor rigging
$920mJPMorgan, trading scandal
$780mUBS, aiding tax fraud
$667mStandard Chartered, breaching sanctions
$619mING, breachi ...[text shortened]... p', you by making your citizens an offer they cannot refuse. Just ask the Irish and the Greeks.
how would you compare the crimes and greed of your list of bankers with the merchant activities in the british empire?
Originally posted by twhiteheadhave you noticed, despite being asked neither are willing to say another time in history in which they would rather live (except what im presuming was a joke answer from robbie).
So is your belief that things are going from bad to worse not based on good points or bad points? Is it not based on the actual events, but on what you believe should be happening, regardless of what the reality is?

can you explain why im "statistically ignorant." as you so kindly put it.
Ignorance is not a sin per se. If you were to check the statistics in each category you listed I'm pretty sure you'll find that things are getting worse, not better.
For instance crime. How about the increased occurrence of pedaphilia? Or deaths by accident? Or any number of things that humans engage in? Education is a big one. I'm always hearing about how American children are falling further behind the rest of the world every year in SAT scores, especially in math.
Missed a couple of days here but seems that there is no consensus yet...
😀. As if there ever is!
But seriously, the link i gave earlier (page 10 I think) is really very good. It gives statistics like life expectancy, GDP etc for most countries since about 1800.
What happened to the US and China, for example, is an eye-opener!
I see nobody has so far commented on this link. Do yourself a favour and check it out.
Here is an excellent talk on how things have changed over the past hundred years or so.

If you go to his gapminder.org website, you can check on a whole host of parameters.

ill start with education as its one of my favourite topics.
education is in the middle of a massive boom around the world. as countries like china and india are becoming global economical powerhouses they need an educated workforce to sustain it. huge sums of money are being ploughed into education programs. so much so european countries are battling to help provide the infrastructure and training.
africa is another part of the world that is seeing a huge boost in education levels. in particular the invention of the internet means that remote villages can set up small schools where the children are taught via skype, one teacher can teach thousands of children. literacy and maths levels are on the up.
many middleeastern nations have been setting up technological training camps for remote villages, in particular the training of women. the hope is that they will spread their knowledge to their village who can then start lift their local economies and standard of living.....
its true that american children are falling behind, but there is more to the world than america.
i could go on...
paedophilia increasing ..........and you call me ignorant. there is no evidence that it is increasing. we are just much more aware of it and better at dealing with it. in the past it was ignored. now people step forward and go to the police.
deaths by accident............what?????
.............blimey and you had the cheek to call me statistically ignorant.
edit: oh and your point that 'things are getting worse' does not mean they are at the worst point in history. do you think things are worse than they have ever been or do you think things are just worse than the highest point? when was the highest point?
