@moonbus saidIf you stick with what Jesus preached and ignore the fanatical Christian mythology, then it all makes sense. These Christians have so much contradiction built into their doctrine [which they are too blind to see], that the resulting teaching is all mumbo-jumbo nonsense which totally contrary to Christ.
"Being able to say yes to love, one has to be able to say no!"
You recently quoted Paul, that man sees the good but is unable to do it. You twist and turn and contort meanings, and the story still does not make sense. Do you see now why I can't buy into this mythology? There is too much incoherence for me to believe it. To be able to do X, one must be able to do not-X also. You affirm this in one sentence and deny it in the next.
@kellyjay saidOn that note, I could hardly fail to disagree with you less.
Life is complex. Many things that seem right to us are not.
Returning to @FMF's OP, I say: when you die, you stay dead, your body rots, and no one gets up and walks around again. You say, some people are going to be risen in incorruptible superman-like bodies. Which of these scenarios sounds to you like "sugarcoating the human condition"?
@moonbus saidEvery single one of us are going to rise up and give an account for all that we have done and said, all that we didn’t do or say. Which means no crime ever committed will escape judgment, and since all of us are a mixed bag of good and evil the evil will condemn us.
On that note, I could hardly fail to disagree with you less.

We can deny good and evil but as soon as we condemn someone we acknowledge it in the lives of others then we will be condemned by our own actions if we have been found doing the same things.
We need a Savior! We can claim hypocrites stand between us and God, all that shows us that even hypocrites are closer to God then us!
@rajk999 saidThe Gospel of Thomas is only one which makes any sense to me. He who understands, lives sub specie aeternitatis and will not fear death, now, not later and not after death, here, on this Earth, not elsewhere (in heaven).

Jesus said, "If those who lead you say, 'see the kingdom is in the sky', the birds of the sky will precede you." (3)
His disciples said to him, "When will the kingdom come?" Jesus said, "It will not come by waiting for it. It will not be a matter of saying 'here it is' or 'there it is.' Rather, the kingdom of the father is spread out upon the Earth and men do not see it." (113)
It is obvious why the bishops at the Council of Nicea chose not to canonize this gospel: if all man needs is to understand something, he does not need a Church. O!, how the bishops needed to be needed!

@kellyjay saidYou didn't answer my question about sugarcoating.

I think people die and stay dead. You think people are going to be clothed in either burning lime for punishment or a superman body as a reward. Do you see any hint of sugarcoating there?
@moonbus saidYes. I do to your way of thinking everything moves towards oblivion good bad indifference it all becomes meaningless. There is meaning and because of that all things matter the good, bad, and the indifference.
You didn't answer my question about sugarcoating.

@moonbus saidI agree with, people do not need to church. The church was supposed to bring people to Christ and encourage obedience to the commandments but instead they encourage sin and disobedience.
The Gospel of Thomas is only one which makes any sense to me. He who understands, lives sub specie aeternitatis and will not fear death, now, not later and not after death, here, on this Earth, not elsewhere (in heaven).

I strongly agree with the fact that the Kingdom of God will be spread [probably already is spreading] all across the earth and people are looking for it in the wrong place for 2000 yrs and they will be doing so for another 2000 years.
@rajk999 saidYou think you are good enough for God?
Wrong. The world needed a saviour before Christ came. Since that time the saviour is come and gone. All that people need now is to live righteously and do good works. You are stuck in an ancient doctrine and unable to progress.
@kellyjay saidYou think your mouth worship is good enough for God. Jesus said these people are good enough;
You think you are good enough for God?
.. Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. (Matthew 25:34-36 KJV)
@rajk999 saidPeople such as KellyJay are looking for meaning after death, in eternity. Whereas Jesus’s meaning was clear: it is here and now, but people don’t see it.

@moonbus saidI would go along with the existence of an after life as Jesus mentioned it several times. Those obedient to his commandments are rewarded in this life with whatever one needs for this body and in the life to come, eternal life.

@rajk999 saidThat is not an answer to the question.
