Originally posted by beatlemaniaSome questions I have about God, Spirituality and the bible:
What questions do you have?
1. Why the sudden change from vengeful in the Old Testament to the kinder and gentler personification of love in the New Testament? Why the second edition? Can we expect a third edition to correct the inconsistencies and inaccuracies in the first/second?
2. Why are there so many diferent religions? What happens to non-Christians when they die? What if I'm the wrong kind of Christian? Perhaps Roman Catholics have a lock on the 'true' Christianity? Why are most children the same religion as their parents? What's with the Mormons? I could right a book on what a bunch of oddballs these guys are, but, are they following the one true path? They are the only ones that address the Native American issue that the bible ignores. Are natives not good enough for God? Are natives God's kindling to keep the fires of Hell burning?
3.If you made Adam & Eve first, and they had three sons Cain, Abel & Seth, what happened next? What happened next to propagate the species? Who did the children marry? Who did they procreate with? Isn't incest bad? Adam & Eve had other children, so brothers and sisters, or Eve's sons and Eve were having sex? Wouldn't this have led to some serious genetic problems?
4.What's with the 'Thou shalt not kill' bit? Wasn't Moses doin a considerable amount of killing, destroying cities, killing all the men and raping the women and farm animals? Did he get a free pass of some sort?
5. Why does the bible focus on an Earth centered universe, when, in reality, we are circling around a minor star in a rather ordinary solar system of an pretty, but otherwise unremarkable galaxy. What's with sticking stars in the 'firmament'? Do you really expect us to believe that the Milky Way is made up of lost souls? Why did you tell us in the Bible that the Earth, Sun, moon and the Heavens are fixed on pillars and cannot move? Why the deception if you knew we'd catch on eventually.
6. Immaculate Conception? Come on now, fess up. God came down and gave Mary a good bit of the ol' monkey love right?
7. What's with fossils and fossil fuels? Why do we not find fossil evidence of some of the species mentioned in the Bible like fiery serpents or giants that towered over us like we were grasshoppers? One of these numbnuts advised me that fossils were of the Devil... did I just top up my gas tank with $50 of Devil splooge?
8. Should I refuse medical treatment as my pain and suffering are God's will? Why did faith healing not help my beloved family friend when cancer ransacked her body, left her to suffer a painful and drawn out death and finally destroyed her husband and son? Why did this wonderful woman's faith not save her or at least ease her and her families pain? Can you faith heal herpes? If abortion is wrong, was I also wrong in punishing the monkey this morning? In a related question, if I decide to burn by neighbours house down because his dog keeps crapping in my yard and he calls upon God to save him, would I be stopped from beating him with his terrier?
9. Just how long did Noah's flood last? Genesis says it was 40 days in one part and 150 days in another. I thought the bible was the 100% accurate word of God? What did the animals eat on this little voyage? Is this how the Unicorns bought the farm?
10. Did Adam really live to 930 years of age? Why am I alloted only 3 score and 10?
11. Why does God repeatedly smite us with storms, disease, war and starvation? Does God want us scared all the time?
That covers most of the big ones. Some of these have a humorous tone, but, its not really a funny subject. If you have serious answers to my questions, you would help me spiritually. By answering these questions you could help to restore my broken faith in God. I would like to have the adult safety blanket that is God in my life, sasly, I have serious trouble reconciling the physical world with what the bible tells me is truth.

His kind only get more stubborn the more they are questioned. That's what makes them tick. They are proud of their stubbornness, It's what keeps them going on those cold cold nights when their god does not appear.

Pick an age, but as far as I'm concerned your the ducks in your brain are not in a line.

Question 2: People have the will to choose what they want to believe so some people make religions up. Unbelievers go to the Lake of Fire where they will burn for eternity. There are 3 points you must believe to be a Christian 1st:that Mary had a virgin birth 2nd: that Jesus died for our sins 3rd:that he rose from the dead. Because the children are taught by the parents the parent's religion at a young age and are rasied in the same religion unless the kids don't listen or they choose some other religion. During the 1800s Joseph Smith claimed to have had a vision from God and an angel told him to go to a field and find solid gold tablets with writings on them but nobody ever saw the tablets,in other words he made it up. No,the Mormons do not, remember they used to practice polygamy which is men have 2-3 wives. The natives worshipped the sun god and tree gods and the god of war and other gods and are no where close to Christianity. Unbelievers are the kindling of the fires of Hell burning, all people of all races who do not believe in God.
Question 3: Cain killed Abel and then Cain became a restless wanderer passed on to Seth. The brothers and sisters married and had kids. Not for at the very least 5-6 generations.
Question 4: The people he did kill were evil people who would not repent and change their ways. Please tell where in the Bible Moses was "raping women and farm animals" and I will get back to you on that.
Question 5: We are the remarkable part of God's creation. The Milky Way is made up of stars, nothing more. Please tell me when and where I said "in the Bible that the Earth, Sun, moon and the Heavens are fixed on pillars and cannot move" And I will get back to you.
Question 6: God put the baby in Mary without having to come down to Earth.
Question 7: Most of the fossils came from the Flood, besides fossils can't form over millions of years because they would rot up in a matter of months.
Question 8: No accept it, for pain and suffering are not God's will. I understand how you as I lost 2 of my grandparents to cancer, but when God says its time to come home to Him, you come home. God can heal anything if He wants to keep the person on Earth longer. You should not turn such violence on your neighbor because an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
Question 9: It rained for 40 days and nights but the water didn't dry up until 150 days were over. Plants that had been stored up in a portion of the Ark.
Question 10: Yes, Adam did live to 930. Because as sin entered the world, dieases and wild beats came about.
Question 11: God is just and must punish the unjust.
If you have more question, just ask.

Originally posted by beatlemania1. Good answer with regards to why we no longer have to provide burnt offerings. However, not a good response as to why the change. Why did God send his son at that particular time? Why the vengeful and destructive nature in the Old Testament? If God is omnipotent, why would He not anticipate the need to forgive our sins up front? Why tempt us? Why send us to Earth from His presence in the first place? Why the pain and suffering? Why not just keep us with Him instead of inflicting this Earthly Hell upon us?

2. Does Eternal suffering of non believers not seem a little harsh to you. I understand I am asking for a subjective response from you, however, why does God, who loves us cast those that with an accident of birth have no real opportunity to become Christians? Would God not have known He was dooming much of humanity to eternal damnation just by where they are born?
3. So Seth nailed his Mom? Great, that seems like a good plan. When did incest suddenly become acceptable? Is 5-6 Generations your assessment or the word of God? On the otherhand, I have a couple of hot cousins and this opens some new possibilities. Good to know, as I've got a family reunion coming up this Summer.
4.Farm animals were not specifically referenced, but, Moses seemed like the type. Genocide is quite common in th OT with God smiting all comers.
Exodus 32: 27 Then he said to them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.' " 28 The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died.
Numbers 31:7-18 7 They fought against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every man. 8 Among their victims were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba—the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. 9 The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder. 10 They burned all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps. 11 They took all the plunder and spoils, including the people and animals, 12 and brought the captives, spoils and plunder to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the Israelite assembly at their camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho. [a] 13 Moses, Eleazar the priest and all the leaders of the community went to meet them outside the camp. 14 Moses was angry with the officers of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—who returned from the battle. 15 "Have you allowed all the women to live?" he asked them. 16 "They were the ones who followed Balaam's advice and were the means of turning the Israelites away from the LORD in what happened at Peor, so that a plague struck the LORD's people. 17 Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, 18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.
5. Like I said, why give us information about the Universe that you know is wrong.
1 Chronicles 16:30: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable.”
Psalm 93:1: “Thou hast fixed the earth immovable and firm ...”
Psalm 96:10: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable ...”
Psalm 104:5: “Thou didst fix the earth on its foundation so that it never can be shaken.”
Isaiah 45:18: “...who made the earth and fashioned it, and himself fixed it fast...”
6. A long range shot then? Impressive. Zeus had to do it the old fashioned way.
7. "Most of the fossils came from the Flood, besides fossils can't form over millions of years because they would rot up in a matter of months." Please rethink this response, this is really horribly thought out. I don't even know where to start with your statement, please give it the attention you gave my other questions and revisit your response. Here's a simple and effective reference for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fossil#Permineralization
8. That's a great catch all answer. However, I thought that if we prayed to God in our time of need he would help us. All our friend asked was for some relief from the pain. The bible has several passages refering to faith healing and assures us that faith in God will ease our suffering. Why did God not want to keep our friend around? Was destroying her husband really worthwhile? Did their feverent prayers help? Secondly, are you sure an eye for an eye (as advocated in the OT) is not a valid system? I'm pretty sure if I started crapping on my neighbours porch he'd find some way to keep his dog in his yard.
9.Fair enough, but, I don't buy the plant bit. What where they feeding the lions? What happened to the dinosaurs, did Moses screw up an leave them behind?
10. Speaking of sin, why did God put the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden? What possible reason could he have for leaving such a dangerous item easily accessable? Why allow the serpent into the Garden? This is like me letting a bunch of toddlers play with a live grenade. Did God not want us to be happy and content?
11. So when the innocent get wiped out and maimed in natural and man made disasters they're just collateral damage? Does God just have crappy aim? Jesus, to my knowledge, never said God would punish us like this. To sum things up, Jesus said God wanted us to believe in him and treat each other well, thats it. Why the constant barrage then? I don't buy that God, who loves us, would continue to drop the hammer on us hoping to nail a couple of bad actors. This is like using a flame thrower to get rid of a bug problem in your house.
