You say that it is a horror story totally alien to you when the Bible speaks of the indwelling sin nature?
Originally posted by jaywillI am 100% sure they are words of man only. The idea that a god would set up a religion, or would even feel the NEED to set up a religion is preposterous on the face of it. Just human arrogance thinking we are so worthy as to be worth the attention of a real god? Sure, and we would want to set up a system of religion in an ant colony.
Are you sure ? Nothing there of God speaking to us in His love and desire for our salvation ?
Are you sure the Bible is just man's words ?
You're putting up a mighty fuss about some of the words.
We could make sure they suffer from original sin, kill the ants who would object to having to worship those incredibly wise humans and would further set up opposing religions in other parts of the colony just for fun.
Sure, that could work.

My gay son was raised in the united Methodist Church and he was taught what is right and wrong in God's eye as well as man's. sorry, your imaginary gay son is going to end up in imaginary hell.

Unfortunately this makes it impossible to know what Paul is talking about. It only ways, "whatever I regard to be unspeakable, is unspeakable". Ephesians 5:12 could and probably has been used to justify unspeakable acts of persecution by people considering themselves Christians against those they regard as pagans.

Quote the Bible all you like,
Thanks that I now have your permission. whew!
but the fact remains that the whole concept of people being 'born into sin' ie their very existence at birth is an offence to God,
I would not put it that way. I mean my whole existence is an offence to God? My sinning is an offense.
You're an Atheist. What do you care what is "an offense to God" ?
What crocodile tears are these ?
is nothing less than a horror story and that you buy into such a horror story is a horror in itself.
To repeat, Christ, with His salvation has taken all the Horror out of it.
Tis a problem. There is no question about it. The Good News is that before I was even BORN, mind you, the Son of God already had come and made abundant provision for both deliverance from the guilt of sin and the power of sin.
Now, since you are bored with "proof texts" I will not bother. But that all have sinned because of this sinning nature is made quite clear by God and His prophets and apostles.
More importantly, that Jesus saves, has also been made very clear.

You are without scruples.
(Ephesians 5:11-13 NKJV)
I do not hesitate to expose those things to the light even though it is shameful to speak of them. Therefore, you are without excuse.

Shall we play name that movie? Clue: it is relevant.
Speaking of quitting, in a day or two I will be quitting the forums for some weeks, but I do not expect to successfully complete the 12-step program. Europe beckons.

Is that only an American expression?
