Based on the posts from Eladar and Rajk, who promote the notion that this earthly life matters SO little, let's just do nothing then.

Let's not:

Visit the elderly
Feed the poor
Take care of sick people
EXERCISE
Etc.

Let's just do nothing, and wait for Heaven.
The new Christianity.....only the afterlife matters.

"The Invention of Lying"

Interesting movie about how the "idea" of God and the bible were "invented", with the start of a lie, then snowballing into more lies to keep the "story" going.

One scene in the movie has a guy sitting poolside, drinking beer, and has decided that since he's getting his "mansion" upon his death, he'll just keep drinking by the pool until he dies. Even the inventor of the lie sensed that something really bad was taking place with the "longing" for the next life, while doing nothing with this life.

That's what you guys sound like with your consistent desire to minimize our life here on earth.

1) God will punish us forever in a horrible place, with Jesus watching, because we don't "believe".

2) We are all nasty, filthy sinners who should have no self worth or esteem due to all the sins we've committed past, present and future.

Two more things to add to the reasons why Christianity gets a bad rap, and seems ridiculous to non-Christians.

Actually one of the many big lies you are referring to is just that a lie. You were referring to the place that most don't have the correct understanding to and that is "hell".
It both does not exist and would also go against everything the bible says about one's death covers all of ones sins. There is no forever punishment for ones sins. That is also why Jesus died for all humans.
The bible uses the examples of fire in that when one never accepts God and his ways that he wants us to live, then when one dies a "second death" one will never be resurrected to life again. So it is as if a fire totally destroyed that person. Fire is all consuming with what ever it burns.

To be clear:

You are saying that nobody goes to hell, because there is no such thing as hell? That's your view?

Your last paragraph is confusing.

Sorry. Yes the bible speaks of a place called "hell". But with just a little research the words "hell, Sheol and Hades" all means the same thing which is just the grave that all humans are usually put after death.
So the teaching that hell is a place where all bad people go to burn forever is not a bible teaching. But it does have paganistic origins.

The eternal being much more important than this life is old time Christianity.

Just to be clear, Paul did not say exercise is unimportant.

"Old time Christianity"? What's that?

Paul said "exercising profits little", which is ridiculous.

What Christians have always believed.

You obviously have Satan in your heart as many others so why do you care what the Bible says?

What is the Christian view of existence in "heaven".
It is slavery, at best.

What are you talking about?

You'd be hard pressed to find Christians agreeing on anything, past and present.

Everyone seems to have their own interpretation of the bible, based on how it fits their own life.

How does your characterization of his theoligical belief - "let's just do nothing then" - square with Rajk999's constant urging that people must follow Jesus' commandments?
