If what I am saying is true then it's about a real space ship and is thus non-fiction.
I guess I can stop taking you seriously now.

You were ever taking me seriously???

You desperately need to learn how to think about, and in terms of, hypotheticals.

Not just for this, but for general life and employment.

I gave you a trivially easy and basic problem to answer, why a book couldn't be
evidence or proof that the Star Ship Enterprise exists.

And neither you, nor Hinds, managed to muster up anything remotely resembling
a coherent argument to challenge this.

I have a suspicion that you cannot do it because EXACTLY the same arguments
apply to your holy book.

The point of all this is thus really simple.

Your position is so pathetically intellectually bankrupt that in renders you incapable
of successfully arguing that I cannot use quotes from the Star trek Technical Manual
to prove the existence of the Star Ship Enterprise.

This is what faith based belief leads you to.

Actually, that's a more valid question!

No, I actually thought you were joking asking such questions it was difficult
to take you seriously. You don't see the difference between the two than fine
by me.

You're contributing to an online spirituality forum: what, in fact, do you believe?
I am a Humanitarian Atheist." Supernatural" is the tag given to those things we do not YET understand. I believe that positive mutually supportive attitudes can be fostered without the need for religion and a god. I see religion and its claim to absolute truth as a restraint on the advancement of Human understanding in a probabilistic Universe. I believe that religion divides people. I believe Humanitarianism is pragmatic and seeks to bond people without any strings attached. I do not believe in an absolute truth which is why I engage in forums such as this , because I might be wrong. I believe that in order for people to communicate effectively we must use logic and deductive reasoning based on probability, this helps create objective common ground.

Then go back through the conversation again and don't make the baseless
and wrong assumption that I am joking.

In fact don't make any assumptions about my motives.
ASK, don't assume.

EVERY single time you have guessed my meaning or purpose you have been wrong.

This should be a hint to you to stop doing that.

No, I don't think I'm going to, I think you have made yourself quite clear
on your views. We do not need to do it over again and see the same things
said.

If I have made myself clear to you, you should be able to tell me what my views [on this] are.

I wager that you cannot.

I wager that you cannot.
To tell you the truth, after the realization you were not joking I no longer
care what your views are. I was attempting to give you the benefit of the
doubt that you were not seriously taking something I hold as holy and
comparing to a fictional Star Trek story. So your views about this topic can
be whatever they are they are. I don't know how much you actually have
to interact with others in the real world, but everyone you work with should
be shown some respect even if you don't agree with their views, you were
insulting and I imagine from your posts afterwards you don't see it and
more than likely don't care.

And thus you prove me completely correct.
Everything you assume is wrong as ever.

I wasn't comparing your beliefs to Star Trek.

And the fact that you can't understand that highlights how lacking your
comprehension skills are.

And the fact that you think you can lecture me on how you interact with
co-workers shows how pathetically wrong your beliefs about me are.

Because you don't listen to anyone who says anything that might possibly
maybe contradict your beliefs.

Which shows you up as a coward. Because if you believed your beliefs could
actually withstand scrutiny you wouldn't run away claiming to be insulted.

I wasn't comparing your beliefs to Star Trek.

What I was trying to do was find out why it is you think that the Bible is
evidence for the things you believe in when you wouldn't take another books
word about an extraordinary claim it makes.
And I picked a nice safe secular example of Star trek.

Instead you assume my meaning, get it wrong, take offence, and go off in a huff.

And again... Insulting your beliefs for being stupid is not insulting you, and it's not
disrespecting you. It's disrespecting and insulting your beliefs.

Stupid and harmful beliefs SHOULD be insulted and SHOULD NOT be respected.

When and where such discussions take place is a different matter.

Unlike some religious people here I do not go around trying to 'convert' random
people, and I don't bring this topic up.

THIS is a forum specifically for discussing this topic, it is not equivalent to an office
or home.

"... because I might be wrong." Yes, OdBod, my own going in perspective many years ago. Your rational focus, objective response [rather than an emotional reaction] and candor are commendable. Your view on the temporal vs. the eternal?

LOL, yep you were and are insulting. I think we have said enough to each
other there is no need to go forward with this.

Fine.

But for future reference, I almost never joke [here], and usually make it very
clear when I do.

Assuming I am 'being funny' or joking is thus almost certainly wrong.

Bear that in mind if you ever choose to respond to my posts again.

Also, I believe all faith based religious beliefs are not just wrong but stupid.

If you find that offensive, then don't talk to me, because I will always be offending
you.
