It is absolute, rock solid, fact. Mitochondria are not genetically encoded, but are passed down through your mothers eggs. This means your mitochondria are genetically identical to you mothers. Your mitochondria contain DNA, which can be sequenced. This can be traced back to the last "mother" of yours or mine that had a minimum of two children.
