Sorry, BDN: even though I was responding to your post, I wasn't criticizing you. The critique was in FS' direction.

And, if you knew the first thing about history--- and especially ancient history--- you might have a valid complaint. Lacking the same and limited to regurgitation of half-baked 're-renderings,' you may as well be talking about any number of irrelevant topics.
You really are just a big mouthed punk.

Here is the problem. You assume that Abraham existed. Why? Only the Bible speaks of him, no? It is because the Bible says that he came from the Sumarian culture. This implies that he was influenced by their culture/religion enough to have his descendants "copy" many of the myths of the Sumarians. If this were not the case, you would more than likely be ...[text shortened]... to spout off your theory that the Hebrews adopted their myths other than a few similarities.
However, that doesn't extend to the historiticy of the stories, like any other historical text , it's should be subjected to scrutiny and comparison to earlier texts.

Compare the writings of the nations antecedent to (or even contempary with) the Israelites with Moses' writings and see if you can note the distinctions. The insult of that truth should far outpace anything you or I are able to do to one another. However, you are welcome to continue trying.

What the Sumerians crafted (while impressive in some respects) pales to such a degree as to not warrant further consideration in contrast to the writings of Moses.

What the S ...[text shortened]... to such a degree as to not warrant further consideration in contrast to the writings of Moses.
Which writings of Moses. these:
8:13 And Moses brought Aaron's sons, and put coats upon them, and
girded them with girdles, and put bonnets upon them; as the LORD
commanded Moses.
8:15 And he slew it
8:19 And he killed it;
8:23 And he slew it;
8:29 And Moses took the breast, and waved it for a wave offering
before the LORD:
getting the flock used to the idea of killing things for the phony god, I'll bet next he'll have em kill off an entire city.

Hardly a thread passes that an argument is raised (in supposed earnest) which, as with all arguments preceeding it, once proof of substance is provided, said argument is quickly discarded and forgotten. I wonder why so much silliness is so consistently ignored?
