@fmf saidDoesn’t mean that at all - at least not the empathy part. I can’t put myself in the mindset of an atheist, though, so can’t say I understand them.
Then you should cling to that meaning, by all means. It's a pity if it means you are robbed of your empathy for and understanding of people who don't share your beliefs, though.
@pb1022 saidIt makes no difference. And, of course, I didn't only say "celebration". I said "reconciliation and celebration". I see what you tried to do there.
If you couldn’t disclose to the person whom you were trying to reconcile with that you’d die in two days, I hardly think she’d be willing to spend those two days celebrating your relationship with each other.
@pb1022 saidMost have trouble that God is good, and we are not; it is the most frightening thing about God. It is more than that even; God is the prime reality. He created it all and holds it all together. He is love. He reached into this universe, became one of us then laid down His life for us; we can accept that or live out our lives apart from Him, which when we leave this life will mean forever.
Sure. This life, to me, has no meaning without God.
You know who else felt the same way? Solomon, considered by some to be the wisest man who ever lived.
Just check the last chapter of Ecclesiastes.

@fmf saidFrom my perspective, yes. I’m not an atheist, obviously don’t speak for them and don’t know their mindset.
Yes, you are. You suggested that trying to repair your marriage when you don't believe in eternal life and you know you could drop dead of a heart attack an hour later seems kind of pointless.
Was Solomon dehumanizing atheists when he said the point of life was to fear God and keep His commandments?
@pb1022 saidFMF found what he thinks is a chink in your armor, now he'll exploit it to the hilt because he gets fixated on little things of no significant importance relative to the discussion at large.
Sure it does.

Probably lies in bed at night dreaming of his intellectual prowess in the SF forum and being knighted for it. 🤣
