There you will find those who believe that the Catholic church is not the true church any more. There you will find those who believe certain prophecies in Revelation shows that the Catholic church will turn apostate in the end of days and will help lead many astray. There you will find those who view Catholics as knowing next to NOTHING about the Bible and, in fact, are willfully ignorant of the faith they profess to have. There you will find those who view Catholics as being those who can sin as much as they please and think they are a shoe to go to heaven simply because they are Catholic.
Nah, I'm not so worried about the cessation of my self that I go around prostituting out my belief structure.
Anyway, though, it seems as though organized religion is not going away; so as a bystander I am for increased tolerance between those of differing faiths. What's your own tolerance level, in your estimation?
There may be some truth in what they are said to be, however, I am not so narrow minded to buy into stereotypes in general. As for my own tolerance, I do not automatically assume one is going to heaven/hell based upon a label of a religion in which they are associated with, rather, my focus is on the cross and Christ's sacrifice for ALL. Now in terms of who goes to heaven and hell, let God be the judge. There are those who have never heard and those who are decieved about the truth ect. I will not be so bold to give answers about such situations, rather, my focus is simply telling people the good news and let the chips fall where they may. THe good news is that you not only can go to heaven but you can overcome sin that you hate in your own life via the cross.
In all honesty, however, I think it natural for people to think that there way is right and everyone elses way is wrong. I don't think it mutually exclusive to those who are religious, rather, I think it a flaw in human nature in terms of being short sided and focused soley upon themselves. For example, we find this in terms of people who think their race is superior to others or those who think their culture is better etc. However, the teaching that Christ died for our sins has nothing to do with being better than someone else. It is a recognition that I am no better or worse than any one else because I am a sinner like everyone else. Basically, we are all in the same boat and need the same things whether we recognize it or not.

It appears that the new pope has said something to the effect that the only true Christians are Catholic. In fact, it seems it is necessary for ones salvation.

What does everyone else think? Is it too late to revive Pope John Paul?
Originally posted by whodeyIt could be? But being catholic and working your way doesn't save you. Chrsit Jesus alone only can save you from the burning sulfers of hell.

All I can say is read the good word, pray about what you have read and then you decide based upon how God talks to you through his word as to what the truth is regarding the matter. 😉
Originally posted by whodeyGood point....I have and do the latter...I believe a true Christian is one who has received and allowed Jesus Christ as Lord of his life...

I don't understand the crap about heaven and hell, though. Can you point to even one thing about you that I should view as permanent? If you choke to death on a jawbreaker tomorrow, is there some thing about you that I should think will endure onward? Why isn't it the case that in such an event you -- the person you are -- would simply cease to exist?
Originally posted by whodeyIt seems like most non-Catholic Christians believe that one only need profess Jesus Christ as one's savior. If this isn't true, then why is it that Christians seem to sin as much as the general public?

2. The Pope most certainly has not said that only Catholics are "true Christians". Every validly baptised Christian is a "true Christian".
3. Nor has he said that being Catholic is necessary for salvation.
I think you need better news sources when it comes to religious reporting.
