"44 years of hurt comes to an end!", ????

wow looki there, a magical unicorn jumping over a rainbow as stars fall gently from a tangerine and marmalade sky, and water gently cascades into an azure pool, with little golden fishes playfully leaping out of the water, grinning and laughing to each other, they fall backwards, their sound reverberating throughout the universe!

In 1966 England qualifyed as home nation
In 1974 England "Did Not Qualify"
In 1978 England "Did Not Qualify"
In every competition since they have blamed their abysmal performance on 3rd parties 🙄🙄🙄

The last time Scotland got to a world cup, "Ben Hur " was fitting new wheels on his chariot!!
I hear ! " Ally Mcload " is interested in the Scotland job again . Stiff oposition from the " Crankies" and that Scottish beauty Susan Boyle though !!! 😏😏😏😏

1982 last 12, went out unbeaten.
1986, quarter-final
1990, semi-final
1998, second round loss on penalties in a great match
2002, quarter-final
2006, quarter-final

I wouldn't class any of those as an abysmal performance (not qualifying in 1994 would be the only one that could count). That looks like the record of a consistent top-10 team.

[Unless your dictionary has "abysmal = better than Scotland have ever managed", in which case, of course, you're spot on]
