I have a deep conviction that England will draw with the USA. Whilst this may not be either sensational nor of much interest to anyone, it is still a prediction.

    A - France & Mexico

France will get their act together, and Mexico are a good team.

    B - Argentina & Greece

Argentina has the quality to win the WC, and, while nobody likes Greece's style, they are very hard to beat and they score on their few chances.

    C - Englang & The US

England have a good team and a good coach, and the US are better than the two other teams.

    D - Germany & Serbia

Germany is the clear favorite, but Serbia beat France in their group and they have a tight defence.

    E - The Netherlands & Denmark

The Netherlands won all their qualification matches and have a strong team. Denmark always qualifies for the knock out matches in WCs. Also a very open group though.

    F - Italy & Paraguay

Italy wins the group and will probably face Denmark in the first knock out stage. Here they will cheat (as always) and progress even further. Paraguay is a better team than the other two.

    G - Brazil & Ivory Coast

Brazil is the second best team in the world and should have no problem with Portugal and N. Korea. Portugal cannot defend and the Drog and the rest of the African powerhouse will be unstoppable.

    H - Spain & Chile

Spain is the best team in the world at the moment and one of the best national teams ever. Chile is a far better team than most expect, and while Switzerland is a good team, Chile is better.

For Group A, France and Mexico is the only right answer, even though mathematically it is not the most probable, when you consider the quality of the teams in the group and their recent world cup experience and trend at the end of the year, it is a near certainty.

Uruguay had to defeat Costa Rica to get to the World Cup at all, now they will have to defeat Mexico when they face each other in the group and Mexico is no Costa Rica.

South Africa likely needs more than its home crowd... and they don't have anything more.

Ridiculous thing to say in a predictions thread, especially considering Uruguay are no mugs and SA are on home turf (and are also no mugs).

Indeed games gotta be played on the field and rankings, stats and trends mean nothing. Football is interesting for that reason as are other sports. No one is invincible. Some teams, like Brasil, can pick up the pace being 0-2 and win 3-2 like against USA last summer. Others fold. RSA impressed me in same summer tourney. Lets see how they fare!

True. If Ireland can give them a good run, then anybody can.

Good Lord, the tournament is 6 months away. Don't you have anything to look forward to until then?
