I think though, this is the same case as Deliverance, where the trauma is psychological, right, and less about any graphic portrayal.

I would classify what happens in Cuties as a graphic depiction, and not just something that is psychologically inflicted.

Obviously the film couldn't have been realistically made with adult actresses playing the girls' roles (though the lead actress was 14 not 11) or by omitting the dance sequences. So basically you are insisting on complete censorship of the subject matter.

Not too long ago, Netflix had a movie on depicting child soldiers in a conflict in Africa. The main character (who ...[text shortened]... s and assorted murders. I do not recall this triggering outrage among right wingers.

Freedoms to address issues versus normalising seeing the subject matter being addressed and cashing in on showing the subject matter without owning your motivation are really complex issues. Protecting and Safeguarding children is an area in which the human race perform particularly badly and the prevalence of mental health difficulties does not suggest we are improving. How has it become the case that people just instantly know their next move and where the line should be drawn according to their political tribe? Has it always been like that and I just missed it?

I find these threads confusing. They suggest to an outsider that in American society you can predict what everybody is going to say or allow themselves to think on any issue according to their political tribal allegiance. I thought freedom of thought was something people fought for. Surely this is a more complicated issue than choosing between two established camps and a culture that reduces it to that is losing free will?
